My stay at Dark Horse was one of the best I have had in my whole 1 month trip to Japan. The house is very warm and welcoming, you feel like you are living at a friends’ house. Andy and his staff were very nice, and drove me and the other guests to many nice locations, including and outstanding onsen. Dinner and breakfast were very good. The beds were very comfy.

Location is perfect for hiking. Neighborhood is so nice and quiet with some good local restaurants and bus terminal is near. Breakfast is super! So delicious and looks beautiful. Hot spring is good enough to heal my fatigue after hiking. Staff is so nice and everything is so clean.

We absolutely loved our stay in Hakuba. It was our first time seeing snow, and the experience was truly unforgettable, we honestly didn’t want to leave. The accommodation was comfortable, welcoming, and made our trip feel so special. The service we received was above and beyond. The staff were incredibly helpful and even made extra arrangements for breakfast, which we really appreciated. We were also really grateful for the shuttle service, especially with our large family.

I was the very first guest of the new winter season. I was welcomed with open arms and smiles. The staff couldn’t do enough for me to make me feel welcome. I spent a lot of time sleeping between riding fresh powder and enjoying other guests’ company. The beds are so comfy. Everything was perfect. I felt at home and was always given a delicious breakfast too.

Maseyo was such a great host. She went out of her way to make our stay happy and good. We loved that we could book the in-house onsen for an hour privately. It was good to soak and relax after a long day of skiing! The breakfasts were an absolute treat and we appreciated that we could eat dinner in house too, saving us going out in the cold at night. To top this all off, Maseyo picked us up and dropped us off at the station when we arrived and departed. We hope to be back.

fantastic stay in a very cosy family chalet, the hosts and owner is very kind and welcoming and the chalet very clean and cosy perfectly located near the bus stop 1 minute walk away that gets you to any of the ski lifts within a short 10 minute ride. I highly recommend this place is fantastic with nice owners that know all the information about the ski resort and passes and rental places too. the onsen is perfect for after skiing.

The breakfasts were amazing - a great start to our ski days. Western and Japanese options were both good. You won’t go hungry. Staff were very friendly and went above and beyond. Location was prime, well situated between Happo-one Bus Terminal and Happo-one ski lifts. 300m from the Bus Terminal, connecting to all Hakuba Valley Ski resorts. 500m to the nearest Happo-one ski lifts. Discounted Happo-one day pass offered.

This is a place I will definitely revisit and recommend to all my friends. They responded to our early check-in requests, as we arrived too early to avoid heavy traffic during the holiday season. The room is super clean, and the equipment is handy both indoors and outdoors. Netflix is even signed in with an account per unit. The first time I stayed there was pre-COVID, and the service level has been very well maintained and even feels better now.

Comfortable stay. It is located in a vacation area, so the atmosphere is very relaxed. While the room is a bit dated, it is well maintained and pleasant to stay in. The room we stayed in was spacious for 4 adults with individual luggage.

Everything about the stay was amazing! The hotel is super cozy with a traditional feel. The staff were AMAZING and made the whole holiday. They helped us with everything from hiring snow gear, transport and restaurant recommendations. They even gave us a ride into town a few times!!!

Bernd and Naoko who own the hotel are the most welcoming of hosts. The Hotelis brilliantly located on the edge of the snowfield so truly ski in ski out. Accomodation is very good with a very good breakfast and the restaurant serves “Austrian” dishes in the evening (which are also very good). Close to a number of restaurants and a short walk to two major ski hire companies (which will deliver you skis to the hotel). There is an onsen at the Happo Hotel that residents have free access to. This is the place to stay in Hakuba.

The chalet/cabin was exceptionally comfortable. It was spacious, modern, warm, and had every fitting, utensil and item you could need. It was so thoughtfully designed with high quality finishing, it was luxury! The location was amazing, beautiful views of the ranges and surrounded by rice fields (snow covered for us) - it was so picturesque! Close to shops, restaurants and slopes. And the owners Yoko and Kazu were BEYOND kind and helpful. An absolute must stay! Our favourite of all three weeks (and 6 accommodations) across Japan.

The accommodations were wonderful! Breakfast tea, and snacks were very convenient as well as the drying room for snow gear! It was very helpful and worked tremendously well! The two running the hotel are quite happy to help in any and all ways to make your stay better, from dropping you off into town for the night, helping with understanding the area, as well as making you feel comfortable and excited to be staying in Hakuba Valley!
