We have been traveling Japan for almost 2 months now, and this was by far our favorite place to stay. The host is very sweet, accommodating and attractive. The view from the place was great. There was cheap snacks, beers, water, vine available. I big nice common room, where you felt welcome. Just a wonderful experience. Would stay here again any time. We stayed there for four nights. There was free green tea and drip coffee. And the tea kitchen was clean, and had all the essentials for simple cooking.

The staff was always at disposal via booking chat and gave us a lot of useful information. Everyday we got the cleaned towels, breakfast snacks and tea and the new bath products. Also there is the free bus service from the bus station to the accommodation and vice versa.

It was an awesome trip. The owner is very friendly and very helpfull. He gave me a map, showed places to go, helped me arriving at places to go. In the two evenings I've been here we've spent time talking. I'd give this place 11/10.

The hosts were super friendly and welcoming. The guesthouse has a nostalgic flare, lots of wood, great atmosphere. We had ordered a veggie dinner and breakfast, and all was home made and good. We arrived after dark and after hours of rain on our motorbikes, and the hosts let us dry our gear in the main room which is much appreciated. // Our host also told us about the mountain road ahead which is forbidden for motorcycles. We were gutted but very happy he told us so we could plan our next day accordingly. // I would certainly stay again!

I have been fortunate to travel all over the world. I can honestly say that this was one of the most delightful stays that I have ever had away from home. The family that runs this establishment was wonderful and kind and gracious. The accommodations were far beyond expectations - simply wonderful.

Generous supply of food in the fridge & kitchen table. Comfortable tatami room & futons. Cable for charging of devices. Good location near the village, convenience store , eateries. The informative self-made/drawn booklets on what to do, eat, see in the village. Thanks also for the free passes to the nearby hot spring (think we got them cos we stayed 2 nights).

Lovely accommodation and lovely host! This guesthouse was so cute and the host really went out of his way to make my stay comfortable. The kitchen is amazing and there is free tea and coffee, and if you’re not wanting to venture out for a meal there’s noodle packets and snacks for a VERY cheap price! Common area is lovely and spacious :)

Small clean and minimalist. Nice hotel staff. So few accommodations in the area as majority are hostels and bunk beds that make this hotel look very luxurious.

Very clean accomodation which has all the amenities you need. The bathroom and toilets were very clean. The bedroom was spacious and has heating, and the bed was also comfy. Naoki is very hospitable and responsive. We were very grateful that Naoki offered to drop us off to the bus stop when it was raining. We really enjoyed our stay here, thank you! I would highly recommend this place to everyone.

Really nice place for a very reasonable price to stay in Shirakawa-go. Definitely compared to the alternatives. A short walk to the old village. When we went there was only one restaurant available in the area, within walking distance from the accommodation, with very tasty Hida beef. Chill common space with drinks & noodles available for very reasonable prices. Bathroom facilities are shared, but that was not an issue for us as they were very clean.

Staying at Shiroyamakan was a life-changing experience for my wife and I. The accommodations and the food were absolutely exquisite, but beyond that, the family that runs the inn completely stole our hearts. If you are visiting Japan, staying at Shiroyamakan is sure to be the most treasured experience of your entire trip.

Owner hospitality. It's rare to find (on budget) accommodations in Japan with owners/staff who can speak English fluently.
