When my driver edged up the narrow-inclined driveway of this very modern home, I didn’t know what to expect. But Pearle and her husband Ranjan greeted me with broad smiles and open arms. After they had retired, they built this sophisticated home on their family’s property. Since the terrain of Matale is mostly mountainous, their home is perched up high on a small hill, allowing a beautiful view of the city from their wide terrace. Communication was swift and efficient as their daughter fielded email questions from the UK. English was spoken perfectly by all members of the family, so no worries for any miscommunication. I had arrived in the late afternoon and Pearle offered me tea. Ranjan returned with some short eats and we sat around chatting. The conversation was easy and I felt like I was visiting good friends for the afternoon. My room was located just off their living room with an adjacent bathroom with contemporary fixtures – it felt like I was in a fancy hotel! The stylish room with extremely high ceilings was spacious and tastefully decorated with an enormous mosquito net tied with ribbons around the large four poster bed. There is a portable air conditioner/fan which was not really needed as the evenings are usually cool and temperate. Breakfast was a luxurious feast with red rice string hoppers, potato curry, dal, green gram and a delicious, spicy chicken curry. Watermelon, pineapple, and sweet juicy papaya from their garden rounded out the meal. After retirement, Pearle turned her interests to cooking and she is certainly an accomplished cook! My only regret was staying only one night and will certainly come back for a longer visit!

A Hidden Gem — Our Best Stay in Sri Lanka! Coldagh Manor by Seven Angels was honestly one of the best hotel experiences of our lives. This beautifully restored old tea manor is peaceful, spotless, and full of charm. We loved wandering through the gardens where every plant is explained, and the whole place feels truly special and personal. The team made our stay unforgettable a huge thank you to Chef Dilshan for the most amazing meals of our trip (especially the rice & curry), and to Dinuka and Lakmal, who looked after us with such warmth and professionalism. We also enjoyed a wonderful private garden tour and a fantastic day trip to the Knuckles Mountains with Bandar, arranged by the hotel. If you want a place that’s authentic, quiet, beautifully renovated and full of heart don’t miss Coldagh Manor. It’s a true hidden gem and deserves to be fully booked.

Jay’s and Anju’s place is one that cannot be missed! ! Located on the route from Dambulla to Kandy close to both cities and many other attractions, like hill walks or waterfalls. The hospitality they offer is 5 star and the authentic food, mostly prepared from ingredients grown in their garden, is just unbeatable. You can feel Anju puts her heart and soul into the food. The hotel is located in a scenic spot in the middle of a small tea estate. The surrounding views are spectacular. The staff were so helpful and the food was absolutely amazing! They set up the ping pong table for us and drove us to the beautiful Sembuwaththa lake. Well worth a visit if you love nature, hiking through tea estates and Sri Lankan food.

Stayed for 3 nights and this was our favourite place during our Sri Lanka trip. Homely feel and amazing food and service. Enjoyed the library and endless cups of excellent tea. Our room was comfortable and clean, lots of hot water. Wifi worked very well in the library area. Tea tasting was interesting and some nice walks in the area. Thanks to Dave and the staff for a memorable stay :)

It was one of the most amazing stays we had. We were well taken care of and the food was out of this world. They make all the food in house and it’s super delicious. Edward, the manager speaks really good English and will accompany you on giving tips around what can be done in the area. The hotel is placed in a calm estate so you hear birds and insects and a lot of nature. Overall it was a superb stay and we wish we could stay there for a bit longer.

Far from the noise, nature surrounded us. There is a stream next to the accommodation, in which you can bathe. The owner cooked our dinner both nights. He is a very good cook. Helpful, he beckoned us to a guide, with whom we took an exciting tour in the Knuckles forest. I can recommend!

I have no words to express my feelings at this property Cascading River, just offering mind relaxing feeling . Excellent service, very clean rooms, delicious food . Please don’t forget to try Srilankan rice and curry menu for your one meal. Very silent place to spend your holiday They have river view rooms also.(A Frame cabana) Staff was very friendly and flexible. Price also reasonable and worth. No need more words.
