Firstly, we were happy to be staying in a family-run hotel and to be able to support a family business. The staff was unbelievably friendly and helpful, giving us tips for what to do and where to go and even for restaurants in the area as we were there during Christmas and the selection was very limited. We were also kept up to date about the weather and various other conditions in the general area. The breakfast was amazing, including the selection of the family's homemade jams. There were so many that we couldn't try them all! Fresh bread, loads of cold cuts and eggs, a huge variety of cereals, and fresh fruit.

Owners allowed us to drop our bags early and we could wait in the lobby until the room was ready. After an overnight sleeper train this was very much appreciated. The place is very cosy, comfortable and freshly-renovated, at the very center of Königstein, with a view of the Königstein fortress. I chose it mainly because it was pet-friendly, and we traveled with our cat who turned out to be their first feline guest. The staff was really helpful, and accommodated all our requests, even helped me order a surprise birthday cake for my husband.
