The next day, we went on a safari in a Yakaduru jeep with a great guide who provided excellent explanations about the Yala area, Sri Lanka, and its wildlife.

Good Karma Hotel is about 17 km from Mulgirigala Rock Temple. It is about an hour's drive from Mattala Rajapakse International Airport and Yala National Park. Bandaranaike International Airport is a 4-hour, 30-minute drive away. Peaceful place, very nice walk along the beach, candle diner at night at the beach, very nice rooms. Staff is lovely and detailed oriented. Good place if you are looking for a place to sleep and relax with a book.

As mentioned in other reviews the rooms are basic BUT comfortable and clean. For the price they are more than perfect. The setting itself was wonderful - right by the lake, surrounded by wildlife. In the evening, the host took us by tuktuk/scooter for a free tour of the lakes where we saw varans, bats, many birds including two beautiful owls !, and even a (harmless) snake. I booked my Yala safari with the host the day before and we could tell that the driver was more experienced than others. We saw all the wildlife one could see in Yala - leopards, crocodiles, varans, many birds, elephants, mongooses and even a sloth bear ! Perfect place, I'm happy I choose it.
