Well managed resort, where employees at the reception, pool or restaurant seem to know you by name. Not sure how they do this, because we don't carry badges or post our photo somewhere. Very spacious accommodation with view on river and romantic and comfortable sleeping in tent with airco. Cosy warm LED lighting at night. Quiet at nights with only sounds of animals and no music, bars or traffic. Facilities are clean and of good quality. Free access to sauna and free use of mountain bikes. Very good breakfast and dinner with high quality organic food in restaurant with view on the river and very friendly and welcoming staff. Free shuttle to the center of Luang Prabang. We discovered this place by coincidence on a bike tour while staying at an other hotel and extended our stay in Luang Prabang to stay here. In hindsight, we would have preferred to stay here more nights if we had discovered it earlier.

Although outside of the main area, Madilao hotel was perfect - very quiet, clean and comfortable with a lovely swimming pool and grounds and a good restaurant. It is only 10 minutes by taxi to the night market and the airport.

Very good service! They arranged everything that we needed. Rooms are very spacious. The bed is super comfortable. We had a room with a wonderful balcony with a nice view. Good location in a quiet area but close to the city

Our room was cleaned every day with two new free bottles of water, hot water shower, AC and fan.. Breakfast was included à la carte with one nice food option and one drink option. Very near to most important temple and monks' procession in the morning. 10-15 Min walk from night market. The host was very friendly, we could pay USD or Kip, and he was available to prepare breakfast even before the scheduled breakfast time! Thank you

everything! the location was marvelous, very quiet, and only about 10 minutes walking to the nightmarket. one of the most important temples just around the corner, where you can watch the alm giving ceremony of the monks every morning. along the mainroad many cafes, and high quality shops, where you can buy authentic tribal clothes and items. the house inside and first floor is all wood, very inviting. the bathroom is small, but the shower hot.

    We really enjoyed just walking around the old city.

    We really enjoyed just walking around the old city. It's small and yet we still ate a different restaurant for every meal, had cocktails at sunset by the river several times, went to beautiful waterfalls, visited the buffalo dairy farm and went to several Wats. Luang Prabang was not part of our original SE Asia tour but we ended up going and so happy we did. Jungala Lounge bar for food/drinks on the Nam Khan River 360 Sunset for an inexpensive bottle of bubbles at sunset Tangor Bistro, had amazing lentil hummus and chicken strips unlike any I've ever had Tamarind is a teaching restaurant with excellent local food Khaiphaen is also a teaching restaurant with amazing food for a great price. Sena Steak House although we didn't have steak is good Manola Cafe had good pizza

    Our wallet was stolen on the first day we arrived...

    Our wallet was stolen on the first day we arrived luangprabang, we lost some Thai baht worth around usd500 not a big deal as we stopped our cards right away. The thing is if something happens to you, you got robbed/raped got sick or whatever unfortunate thing occur to you, never expect police or authorities to come to help you as there's no one willing to do the work. However, Laotian people are mostly kind so if you plan to go I wish you a lot of luck.

    The friendliest, coolest place on Earth.

    The friendliest, coolest place on Earth. There are plenty of places to go, to visit, to do. More importantly, it is a great place to just BE! A visit to Luang Prabang for me would be incomplete without at least a couple of visits to Big Brother Mouse where tourists can meet and chat with locals - English speaking practice for them, cultural learning for visitors! Mandalao Elephant Sanctuary is a great place to visit. For bars, restauants: I recommend the Rainforest Bistro and Bar, Khaippen Training Restaurant, Alounvasath Bakery Restaurant, the barbecue restaurant oppositive Wat Visoun and the B82. Please, please, please DO NOT RIDE ELEPHANTS!
