Beautiful property in a great location for hiking to Pico Ruivo and Pico Areeiro. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They made us feel very special. The Hibiscus Restaurant had wonderful food and Fabrício was great!

A small cozy town among the mountains. We came here on the way back from Porto Moniz. We felt the local flavor here more than in other tourist cities in Madeira. We liked it here! In the center of the city in front of the church a man bakes a very tasty bread - we advise you to buy this bread!

Gaula is convenient for Funchal and the airport. But it is not the best part of Madeira. We much preferred the west coast and the middle of the island The plant life and trees across the island are superb. And some of the scenery is breathtaking. Great place to explore the East of the island , Machico is a relaxed version of Funchal. Good beach for swimming and good restaurants. The east, except Sam Lauranco, is little explorer and all the better for that. It is our favourite part of Madeira, much like the island was when we first came 40years ago. Walk the small! Alvarez with no other walkers in sight, bliss.

Santa Cruz is a small seaside village at the end of the runway. There are enough cafes and restaurants to keep you occupied along with some nice little parks and a good play ground if you have kids. The weather is just perfect.

Machico has shops with souvenirs and snack bars and restaurants as well as a clean beach with golden sand and changing facilities. There is also a supermarket and bus station enabling travel to other destinations on the island. People are friendly and helpful. There are many places to simply sit and have a drink and a snack.

Santo da Serra is a quiet region with a village, perfect for exploring the mountains and nature. There is a garden with a lot of trees, some animals and places to have a picnic or simply relax in the woods. There are also churches and restaurants with very good local food. If you enjoy playing golf, then the Santo da Serra Golf Course is one of the most beautiful I've seen, with its breath-taking scenery. There is also at least one pharmacy and mini-market near the church, along with a children's public playground (with slides, swings, and other toys for small children to enjoy). You are also only a few minutes (by car) away from the Santa Cruz aquapark, the Airport and Porto da Cruz.
