I was super happy about the accommodation since it had everything for a pleasant stay. And it was super close to the beach and not so much in the crowded street. And the hospitality was also very satisfying.

The room was very clean and nicely decorated. Also it had plenty of space so you didn’t feel cramped in space. The bed was very comfortable. The location is awesome, just a 5 minutes walk away from the main road, where plenty of restaurants and coffees can be found. The hotel is in front of the beach, where you can see beautiful sunrises (if the weather allows :)) What we have enjoyed a lot is the terrace next to the room. We spent hours sitting there listening to the waves of the sea and bird sounds. We have been able to see many kind of different types of birds, like toucans, parrots and humming birds. Besides the location, the owners Carmen and Angelo, are very helpful, lovely and kind persons. Always good communication and they made everything to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We have also booked different trips with Angelo aka Eagle-Eye (motorized boat trip for animal watching along the canals, canoe tour through the canals of the national park and a day walk through the natural park). He is an amazing animal spotter and has also a lot of knowledge about animals and nature.

Located between the Caribbean Sea and the canals of Tortuguero National Park, Mawamba Lodge is accessible by boat or plane only.

The location is gorgeous! Right next to the beach (which isn’t meant for swimming) and a 20 minute walk into the small village. It was Turtle season and we baby sea turtles on our morning walk and at night you can take a guid tour to see the turtles coming onto land to lay there eggs. The beach is closed between 6pm and 6am to protect the turtles. Take note that getting to Tortuguero you need to take a water taxi that leaves from La Panova (large parking area) and the last one leaves at around 4pm. We paid a bit extra (€15 per person in total) to have the watertaxi drop us off at the Mawamba Lodge. We were traveling end of September and the river water was really low so it took almost 3 hours to get to the Lodge but otherwise it is about 1 hour. But we really didn’t mind cause the boat trip is really unique and goes right through the jungle of Tortuguero.

This is a truly family run resort with three generations of Willis’s to help us with our trip. The cabins were basic but perfect for what we needed. Highly recommend the early morning bird watching tour, so peaceful out on the river and we saw incredible wildlife. A definite highlight. We also appreciated their honesty when the heavens opened and they suggested we shouldn’t do their night walk - excellent advice!

We stayed here before on a tour and decided then that we would come back. The best and friendliest staff, good breakfast and right by the beach! They al do babe a pool. They are super accommodating. The apartment has everything you need.

Everything.: Location, decor, staff. It’s a lovely boutique hotel with the most amazing staff throughout. Attentive to the needs of guests with warmth and kindness from the moment you arrive. They organised fabulous excursions. It’s located right on the beach. I could hear the ocean from my room. Thank you for a wonderful few days.

From the beginning to the end, Gerson, the main person that I was in contact with, was super helpful and friendly. I loved that there was a fully equipped kitchen and the location was the best, across the beautiful beach; and access to the river from the other side; also close to town and restaurants, Tortuguero Park, and more.

We spent only 1 night to do a night tour. The room was very nice, super clean, with AC, which was so important as it was too hot outside. The house is just in front of the sea so you can hear at night the sound of the waves, it was so relaxing. Also, in the room there were coffee, tea, and some candies. We really loved our stay here.
