The hosts are very lovely. They have bbq facility on site (1500 yen fee) which I highly recommend! It’s nice to have outdoor bbq. However, keep in mind that you will need to bring your own ingredients. To access this accomodation you will require a car as it is a bit far from the downtown.

Magome Chaya guesthouse is right in the middle of the small town of Magome. Could not ask for a more central location. The location along with the hard working and friendly staff made for an incredible stay. We did not do dinner, but we did have breakfast. The food was simple traditional Japanese breakfast, but was very hardy, tasty and kept us going on our hike that day. If you are going to hike the trail and need a simple friendly place to stay, this is it.

Yuki & Ken are the most wholesome host-couple: kind, helpful & funny. They will make sure that you feel welcome and point you towards the must sees along the nakasendo trail. You will reside in the heart of Magome - perfect to enjoy the village without the crowds in the morning and evening + perfect to do the hike to Tsumago. The inn was newly opened, everything feels in order and thought through: stylish while feeling quite traditional. We loved the tatami mats and futon, in which we slept very well (pyjamas are provided). We were a bit concerned about the „shared bathroom“ before arriving but with 3 toilets and 3 shower/bath rooms (all very clean) for 4 rooms it wasn‘t an issue at all. Breakfast (toast, scrambled eggs, joghurt, fruits) and dinner (curry, salad, soup, tempura) were simple and delicious - most of the ingredients come from their own rice fields / gardens (try the selfmade plum wine).

This is a beautiful home in an amazing location. It really exceeded our expectations in every way. The level of detail put into the construction of the building is a work of art. We feel very lucky to have stayed at bochi-bochi. The host went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and we are very grateful. 🍍🚲 We look forward to staying at bochi-bochi again in the future.
