We had a lovely stay here! The staff was absolutely welcoming and the room was very comfortable. We were greeted with a warm cup of tea, it was wonderful :) Their large garden is a great space to chill, and they also have a book exchange! Thank you :)

The view from the bedroom was one of the best views I have ever had, looking over the mountains and valleys was incredible! I was fortunate to also be the second person to stay in the newest room, and it was incredible! Great layout, lots of space and waking up to incredible sunrises was an amazing experience! Would highly recommend this place if you want to experience some incredible nature

Had a wonderful 2 days here. The owner and his family are wonderful. I was collected by the owner and taken to the house. In the afternoon, he took me to see the rock temple. The following day, to see 5 waterfalls (not the standard touristy ones) and a beautiful cave temple, at a very reasonable price. This is the place to stay, to see the real Sri Lanka

We really enjoyed our time at Sam's Stay. The place is new and one of the nicest we have been to in Srilanka. Sam welcomed us with fresh mango juice from his garden. The next day he showed us all the fruit trees around his place, rice fields and natural pool where you can swim. We had an amazing breakfast at his restaurant. On our wish he even prepared us wood apple juice which was delicious. For a local experience of Srilanka we highly recommend Sam's Stay.

We, my girlfriend and I, have experienced our stay as a wonderful journey. When we arrived, we were faced with a closed gate, but within seconds the owner arrived. After checking in, we entered the room – perfect! A nice big bed, a clean and spacious bathroom, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and everything you could need! After having a little chat, the hotel owner asked about our plans. We mentioned that we came for the nature and tranquility, and without hesitation, he offered to show us around the area. This was the start of an experience we will never forget. 🙏 First, we went to a small waterfall, very local with no tourists – just some local youngsters hanging out who even offered us a beer. Then he took us to Diyaluma Falls – what a massive waterfall that was! He offered us lunch, which he had made himself! A sandwich we’ll never forget; it was incredibly delicious. Next, we visited Buduruwagala Rock Carvings, where the owner introduced us to Buddhism. The place was surrounded by nature – trees, plants, birds – pure enjoyment. We thought we were heading back to the hotel, but nothing could be further from the truth. We visited real monks, where we received blessings and a white bracelet from an elderly monk. They also offered us boiled corn – so tasty! After the visit, we continued back to the hotel. On the way, we ran into a friend of the owner, who invited us to their home. When we arrived, the whole family was there to meet us. What kind and friendly people! They offered us tea and chocolate biscuits, and my girlfriend even received a gift! It gave us such a happy feeling, something we will cherish forever. ❤️ Then it was time to head back to the hotel – or so we thought. Instead, we went elephant spotting! Yes, you read that right – real wild elephants! It got quite late, but we spotted several wild animals, including both a male and female elephant. This, too, will stay with us forever.

Awesome location in the middle of the forest. If you're looking for the real Sri lanka or to see the real Sri lanka life this is the place for you! Michael the host is just amazing and will do anything to make you feel at home and will assist with anything you may need. I was travelling alone so we were preparing dinner together and he expalined me everything bout the local food. Overall it was great experience for me and if you're in the area i would highly recommend to stop over :)

The attention to detail in rooms and clean bathrooms with helpful staff

Victory Inn  was right off the main bus route and an easy 5 min walk from the bus stop. The hotel is large, rooms are large and clean with storage space. There's a balcony as well. Wifi was strong in the room. AC also very strong. The staff were extremely attentive, friendly and very helpful. We ate at the restaurant, the food was incredible. They made sure we had enough to eat, and served us cold fruit drinks and cold beer. They also had breakfast ready for us in the morning that we pre ordered. They helped us figure out which bus to take to our next destination in the morning! The staff took excellent care of us and we highly recommend anyone coming through Monaragala to stay here. It's right on the main strip so you can also walk to anything you need. Cannot emphasize how amazing and attentive the staff are!!!

Loved our stay!!! The hosts are such beautiful people. Ensured our stay was comfortable and cooked delicious meals. They also organised activities around Ella for us to go to. Drove us around in their tuktuk. The room itself is phenomenal. Overlooking the nine arch bridge. Very quiet and beautiful. Highly recommend staying here. Beautiful home and beautiful people!! We were very sad to leave

The location—and especially the view—is stunning. The owner is an incredible lady: so friendly, so helpful. I was bitten by a leech, and she took such great care of me, even bandaging the wound herself. The breakfast was full of delicious goodies and easily the best we had in Sri Lanka. I don’t have enough words to describe the amazing food and the warmth of the host. The room was clean and located on the main street. You might hear some noise at night, but nothing that disturbs your sleep. It’s a bit far from the city center, but that’s not an issue—tuk-tuks are easy to get and very affordable. The bed was big and comfortable, and the view from the room was breathtaking. Overall, it was such a beautiful experience. I truly recommend this place. Communication was easy, and it was actually the most well-equipped room we had: fridge, free water, toothbrushes, even sanitary pads for ladies. The host was so thoughtful—when we left, she gave us snacks for the road. Big thank you!
