We had 3 unbelievable days with Bischnu, Kalpana and their two sons. The whole village is heartwarming and neighbours are so kind and welcoming. We were lucky to have our stay during Dashain and the family took us with them as family members, explained every tradition and even provided with traditional celebration clothing for the 10th day of Dashain. A true highlight for our kids! Besides this the food is amazing and we could help out by the preparations. Bischnu also explained the core principles of permaculture, which they use for the farmhouse. It was very interesting and inspiring. Cherry on the top: our kids could milk the cow in the morning and we could fly kites from the rooftop of the farmhouse! AND the views are breathtaking: the rice fields on one side, the mountain range on the other when they dare to sh es ow themselves.

Panauti, a must experience quaint community located near Kathmandu (about45 minutes drive from the airport). At Shila/Ashok's Community Holiday Inn, I woke up well rested in a comfortable room, set up with in-room bathroom. The carpeted floors solved my biggest issues with travels in South Asia, which are cold feet in hotel rooms where flooring is stone. A kittchen equipped with a kettle and a gas stove with two burners, pots and utensils had plenty of good quality Nepali teas and coffee to start the morning right. You can arrange with Shila/Ashok for a full breakfast at an incredibly reasonable price. As they tell me, the Community Holiday Inn was theirs as a pilot initiative and now provides for many households who follow strict guidelines to meet western standards so to provide a worry free stay. All of them are run by the housewives, empowering local women and by attracting tourists to the region benefits many households and businesses alike. The project also boasts of a new restaurant which provides authentic Newari cuisine and ambience. Guidelines for meeting tourists needs and standards is advised by Ashok, who had 16 years experience as a Chief Experience Officer with GAdventures, a company I have personally travelled with five times and never fails to impress with their high standards and resourceful staff. Ashok has led over seventy expeditions to Everest Base Camp for GAventures and also to other locations in Nepal and Bhutan. I was lucky he was in town when I visited Panauti and learned lots about Nepal and South Asia travels. Shila ensures the Community Homestay runs like clockwork, ensuring guests are comfortable, their needs are met and the facility is clean, well stocked an equipped at all times. Her long term experience in hospitality and entrepreneurial drive has benefited her household, community and tourists alike. Attention to detail is key.

They gave us a variety of experiences according to our wishes. They let me cook meals with them, and I was able to learn how to make homemade Nepali food and the Newari culture. The food I ate here for dinner, breakfast and lunch was the most delicious during my trip to Nepal. The fun conversations I had with my host family are also unforgettable memories. Also, the room was clean and I felt very comfortable. I would like to come stay again.

Staying here really gives you a taste of what life is like in Bhaktapur. Navin is the best host I’ve ever had, he showed me round the city, took us to cafes and bars, and even took me to a family celebration. Joining him on a morning temple walk was an amazing experience. He puts a lot of energy into giving his guests the best experience and is very passionate about what he does. The room was also very comfortable, and the location couldn’t be better.

The breakfast and dinner were so good. Prem ‘s wife is a good chef. I really enjoyed two nights staying in this village nearby the mountains. The weather was changing at every moment. I napped a lot in my room because the wind and air was so gentle to relax there. Prem is a polite and honest man. He is also a trekking guide. I would be definitely back next time to trek with him.

Hope you're not gonna need this one, but if your motorcycle suddenly stops, the owner (and pretty much the whole village) will help 😁 Truly pleasant surrounding.

Super friendly owner who provided a good room, fantastic food and helped in every way possible to make this a great stay! The place is located in a peaceful village, close to the Namo Buddha Monastery and Stupa, which is a pilgrimage site. It's a short and pleasant walk to the monastery and all the roads are dust free. A perfect place to get away from the noisy and polluted Kathmandu and see how local people live.

We loved our stay at Namaste, it was a lovely break from the hustle and bustle on Kathmandu - the room was clean and had everything we needed including a beautiful view over the hills and town. The food was fabulous and the area was phenomenally beautiful! But the stand out for us was our hosts who were so kind and accommodating! We were taken on a stunning walk to Bimire where their charity has loads pipes to allow running water to reach the village. We will absolutely be back!

If you want to be part of an authentic village for one or two weeks, the house of Bishmu en Kalpana and their 2 big sons are excellent. Everybody knows them and they know everybody.. Children of the village like to play around their house, and also they like to invite you to their homes Or into their games. The family is willing to tell you a lot of stories, if you inquire. And bring you to wonderfull places nearby the village.
