We had never been glamping before and weren’t sure what to expect. At One was a very pleasant surprise. The room had all the luxuries of a hotel and the surrounding are beautiful. We felt like we were on a luxurious safari in that nature and glorious wildlife was all around but we could retreat into a space with all the comforts and mod-cons we’re used to. The best of both worlds. The staff were very welcoming and offered great local knowledge and guidance on things to do. We visited the turtle sanctuary situated on the most glorious beach a few minutes walk away and regret not having had the time to explore the lagoon at the bottom of the lane. We’ll certainly be back.

After 10 days backpacking around Sri Lanka, Maritime Nest was the perfect place to relax for a few quiet days. The cabanas are newly built, well equipped and very clean and comfortable. The gardens and pool are delightful and the food at Panchi restaurant is excellent. The breakfasts, in particular, are delicious and plentiful. Most importantly we were made to feel very welcome and were looked after extremely well. Madura, his family and great team of staff were fabulous hosts. Madura made helpful suggestions for local sights and activities and was always responsive to our queries. We particularly enjoyed visiting the local Turtle Sanctuary, a mindful and ethical way to experience these amazing creatures. The beautiful almost deserted beach can be reached via a short track and, whilst the sea is too rough for swimming, there is a delightful rock pool nearby. Very highly recommended. Thank you to Madura and his team of staff - we wish you every success with your new business.

Having travelled around Sri Lanka for eleven days and experienced various accommodation, Shine Wave was by far the cleanest. The room was equipped to a very high standard with a very comfortable bed and bedding. There were even umbrellas and sunshades to take to the beach! The breakfast was served on a little table on our very private balcony surrounded by tropical trees. The food was also the very best Sri Lankan breakfast we’d been offered, with delicious pancakes as well as all the other things, all beautifully presented. The proprietor bent over backwards to ensure that we had a good beach experience, which we were able to walk to in about a minute down a sandy track, and what a beach! The proprietor told us what to do at eight o’clock that evening in order to see the turtles at night ( i.e. go to the small turtle conservation centre, pay the guides 2000SR each which we believe is used for the conservation project.) That evening, the hotel owner was at the hotel gate where he loaned us his torch to go to the beach. The torch shone a red light, which is the only colour allowed on the beach and is less likely to affect the turtles. We went with a small group of other travellers from the conservation centre, and on the beach we were utterly and totally amazed by what we saw! To begin with, we saw a tiny turtle that had just hatched out of it’s egg, scurrying down the beach and heading for the sea. Then we followed the guide down the beach a little way, where the guide shone his red torchlight on to an enormous green turtle at the back of the beach. She was down in a dip having laid her eggs and was laboriously digging up the sand and burying what was likely to have been about a hundred and twenty eggs. The final thrill was to watch her move slowly back down the beach, leaving her glorious patterns in the sand. When she reached the sea, our last sight of her was when the waves lapped over her …. and then she was gone.

The Lookout Lodge is simply amazing. It’s an oasis which has been developed with much love and care. The people running it are wonderful, the rooms are clean and stylish and the swimming pool is perfect. It’s a 5 minute walk to the (empty) beach and a 10 min walk to the turtle rescue center. It only has four rooms so it’s quiet and private. You have a unique view of the lagoon with all kinds of animals, and peacocks that love to use the roof of the lodge!

The staff and host in this property could not have been any kinder. We were able to get our laundry done for a very fair price and the host even made us a packed breakfast as we had to leave very early morning on our departure. The location was very close to the beach and a short ride to the secret beach.
