Very nice stay in a “funco” house, typical from “Chá das Caldeiras”. The hosts Léa and Joao are really really nice, the breakfast prepared by Isabela is also amazing. A real place to stay if you intend to visit Portela in Chá das Caldeiras.

The views from the public terrace of Sao Filipe are stunning. I stayed in the luxury room 10 two nights and it was so beautiful with a very high ceiling, a full two door window that opens to purple bougainvillea and the same gorgeous view as the terrace. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have tried in my life, firm but still soft. The workers are nice and helpful if you need any help planning a trip to the volcano, etc. The owner is generous and kind and the atmosphere among the staff is comfortable. Breakfast is a fancy version of a typical Cabo Verde breakfast: white bread, boiled eggs, guava jelly, Fogo traditional cheese, papaya, etc. The location is in the heart of Sao Filipe and walking distance to all the restaurants and the black beach.

This is a very nice place to stay for couple nights. Quiet, comfortable. Breakfast was included and I have asked for it at 6am, so the Lady just left it from the evening (coffee in a termopot). Also you can ask for a dinner, which is really good, super tasty (Ive got a fish with rice and veggies for 900 escudo). And also you can ask for some wine (industrial or craft homemade, about 200 per glass). The place has not many reviews but it's seems super new, means you will have also super new bathroom which is nice bonus for staying. As for the transfer: you can book the place in Alluger with the room booking. The way from Sao Filipi is 50-60 mins and costs 1000 escudo. As for the trekking: 1. The location is the best, right next to the start of few trekking routes 2. You can ask the owner for a guide, just ask for someone local who is actually based here in Caldeiras and not in Sao Filipe. As for the Pico Grande you will definitely need a guide because it's super tricky route. For the Pico Grande the usual price is 6000 per person but it's could be a discount if you are in group 3. Also you can walk by yourself (without guide) for couple places: e.g Pico Pequeno (it's now that far) and also you can walk to the Forest Monte Velha (about 5 kms till the entrance to the Forest) or even to Mosteiros (about 16 kms in total, 10 kms at the normal road and 6 kms are a bit difficult, inside the forest - not the easiest trail but it's possible)

Katya is very welcoming, cooks very (very very) well and takes care of her client like no one did in Cap Verde. We have spent 2 weeks in Cabo Verde and haven’t met anyone that kind, welcoming and helpful. The place is also amazing. Out of nowhere, facing the sea, natural swimming pool… you name it! Katya also offers a few options to discover Fogo island like pico de fogo.

Adriano and Filomena welcomed our group of 4 people in their house. The place was perfect for us: great location, wonderfull view on the caldeira and on the volcano, quality of the staff, size of the room, good food made by them. They have done everything to feel at home. Take time to discuss with Adriano, he has many stories to tell you about the caldeira and about Fogo. Thanks Adriano and Filomena for these days on another planet !

The room was clean and functional. Food was healthy, and portions were big. Jose helped us planning our hikes around. I highly recommend ! Oh, there is two super cute cats.

Great location, at the foot of the volcano and in the middle of the village. If you choose to eat there, food is really great and you are welcome at the host’s.

Ze and Sonia were super nice, friendly and accommodating. They could speak French relatively well. The room is simple but functional. The meals prepared were very delicious. The WiFi was good to work from there, and in case, the 4G antenna is located nearby. Absolutely recommended!

Το Pensão Repouso Alegre Turismo e Aventura παρέχει καταλύματα σε Portela με θέα στο βουνό και διαθέτει κήπο και βεράντα. The place was very comfortable and with everything you need to enjoy some days and chill at the village of Chá das Caldeiras. The guided hike to climb the volcano was also great and a very complete experience overall. Our host, José, was always very kind, helpful and friendly. I totally recommend this place for anyone who wants an authentic getaway to relax and enjoy a few days by the volcano.

Το Fogo Boutique Hotel βρίσκεται σε Sao Filipe, σε απόσταση 1 χλμ από το σημείο ενδιαφέροντος Παραλία Sao Filipe και παρέχει καταλύματα με εξωτερική πισίνα, δωρεάν ιδιωτικό χώρο στάθμευσης, κήπο και... At first, we were a bit hesitant due to a few very harsh negative reviews, despite the majority being positive. That's why we wanted to share our own experience. We stayed in the Sal Room, the most affordable option at the hotel, and for €90, everything was perfect. The view alone was worth the price, not to mention the warm and genuinely welcoming staff, who seemed even happier to host us than we were to be there. Fogo Boutique Hotel is a small oasis on the island. While there are some limitations, it is undoubtedly the best option in the region. We will definitely be back!
