The traditional japanese room is big and spacious, and while no bath is available on premise, Mr. Suzuki drove me to both a public bathhouse and local restaurant in the evenings. Mrs. Suzuki had a very large and delicious japanese meal cooked up for breakfast. The pair were even kind enough to help me plan out my trip around the local area after breakfast! Located a short walk away from Hiraizumi station and an even shorter walk to the nearby Mōtsū-ji, I highly recommend Minpaku Suzuki to anyone interested in staying in Hiraizumi! Will definitely be planning another stay!

奥州平泉温泉旅館 itsumu offers a public bath and free private parking, and is within 3.1 km of Chuson-ji Temple and 3.9 km of Motsuji Temple. The property features mountain and quiet street views, and is 9.2 km from Takkoku Seikou-ji Temple. The accommodation provides a hot spring bath, free WiFi throughout the property and family rooms. I was told that this hotel was recently reformed. Lucky us, it's totally new. The lobby is just like a mini museum. Breakfast is strongly recommended. If you like nature and tranquility, this hotel is surrounded by rice field and it's on top of a little hill that provides a very nice view. We came here by bus. At the bus stop, there is a convenience store to buy drinks and food, cause there are no restaurant in this country side, although you can reserve dinner in the hotel. Then from the bus stop, it's a 10 minute walk to the hotel. Everything was just beautiful and tranquid. We really enjoyed our stay. Walking through the rice field to visit the famous Chūson-ji was our favorite day trip.

24 km from Chuson-ji Temple in Oshu, フォレストコテージ奥州 provides accommodation with access to a sauna, hot spring bath and open-air bath. The air-conditioned accommodation is 25 km from Motsuji Temple. There is an outdoor fireplace and guests can make use of free WiFi and free private parking. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Forest Cottage Oshu. It was the perfect winter getaway - cozy and wholesome! There was snow everywhere and it felt so magical! The room was spacious and comfortable, and the kitchen was fully equipped. We enjoyed the nearby onsen, which is free if you stay at one of the cottages. When we came back from the onsen in the evening, the staff started a bonfire outside that just enhanced the magical atmosphere. We found a couple of sweet potatoes in a plastic bag hung at our door handle and fully enjoyed roasting them in the bonfire. Such an amazing stay!

I think we were especially lucky being here on a Monday night as we were virtually the only people here! It meant that my son and I got the public onsen to ourselves which is superb (the outside area is right next to falling snow and a stream).
