Cabins in Deniyaya

This was one of the best places we've been to on our trip to Sri Lanka. It's in the middel of nature, there is a beautiful waterfall where you can dip into the water and even get fish therapy about a 5min walk from the Hotel. The glass bungalow was incredible, the room was clean, very comfortable and there is a mini fridge with snacks and beverages. Apart from the room, the host and his wife are lovely people, so friendly, warm and welcoming. We had a tasty welcome drink, then they showed us the way to the waterfall, before dinner, the host took us on a little walk to see the surrounding area and after dinner he took us on a little night walk around the house to see the little animals living there. He gave us much information about plants and animals and also organized a guided trip to the rainforest the following day. His wife prepares breakfast and dinner herself and it was by far the best we've eaten on our trip. The accomodation is not easy to find and to access if you are not travelling by car, but you can inform the host and they organize a pickup at a reasonable price. This wasn't a negative point for us as we enjoy the sounds of nature, but if you're a light sleeper it's fair to mention that the sound of the waterfall is quite loud and you can also hear the frogs and circadas quite a lot. That's definitely a pro when you, like us, like to be surrounded by the sounds of nature but may be a con if you want to be in a more quiet place. We really recommend to visit this beautiful place when you are travelling in the Sinharaja area! Thank you so much for everything!! :)

If you are looking for a quiet and cozy retreat right at the edge of the Sinharaja Rainforest Reserve, this is the place for you! You can literally watch wildlife, like the purple faced Monkey, white Monkeys and countless birds - right from the balcony. While the lodge is simple, it has everything that is needed for a simple stay. It offers a spacious bathroom with warm water shower, a big bed plus a third smaller one. Everything is held clean upon request by the owners, including a laundry service. The owners deserve a special mention! Such friendly, helpful and welcoming people. Often times we felt like part of a family instead of just customers. The food (traditional Sri Lankan cuisine or western cuisine) is delicious and prepared and presented with love. The owners also take “special requests” if you want to dive deeper into Sri Lankan cuisine, like Kithul Raa (Sweet Palm Wine), home grown Manioka Mallum (Cassava root with Coconut) and probably much more. Another special praise we want to give is to Ruan, a guide provided by the owners, for visiting Sinharaja protected area. While his price might seem rather high, it is totally worth it. He has deep knowledge and can show you some secrets of the forest. And did I mention that the rental price is more than reasonable? All in all, we were 100% happy with our stay at Sunshine Forest Lodge, would love to visit again and would recommend a stay to everyone visiting the area.

Don't miss out on ordering Mama's Sri Lankan Curry for dinner, it's the best! The views are stunning and the lodge is only a 3 minute walk to the Rainforest. It's a superb day out.

Very close to rainforest great bird and squirrel watching and James was fantastic

it’s a very cute place, all made of woods. located just on the riverside. many birds singing around. there is a big terrace in front of the entrance, perfect for morning yoga. bed is very big and comfortable. we have visited national park near by and saw many animals, different lizards, snakes, birds. our trip was perfectly organised by the owner. he is very nice man and friendly, we have enjoyed his company. especially we want to notice that food was amazing, like in a good restaurant. we definitely will remember our stay and come back again! 😊

The staff were very welcoming and professional. Despite the fact that we were the only guests at the hotel, and it seemed like a very quiet period, everything was functional and the staff were prepared to fulfil all of our needs and wants. We asked for extra spice in our evening meals, and it was done. We asked for eggs a particular way in the morning, and it was done. The wildlife in the grounds and around the hotel was an excellent introduction to our trip to the rainforest.

We were a family of five with adult children and had the whole villa for ourselves, and the experience was amazing! The villa is newly built and everything felt brand new but yet very familiar with Ishan heading a super attentive and nice staff. The views are breathtaking over the surrounding mountains, with a small river pond on the property to take a refreshing dip into (together with the small fish givning you a interesting fish spa experience). We just felt blessed staying in this tranquille environment, enjoying excellent food and just hanging out together. It was definitely more than worth the bumpy ride up to this place. Big thanks to Ishan with staff that made this an extraordinary experience.
