Everything is to like about Casa Cactus, from the carefully decorated room, to the food that is creative, delicious and fresh, to the garden with beautiful plants, a pool to refresh and attentive staff. To make the most of Casa Cactus I recommend having your own car (although the hosts can help with arranging a taxi). The place is perfect if you are looking to relax, lay back and enjoy nature, but also be able to get to more lively places like Bacalar which is 20-30 mins by car. Jasmin and Sebastian made everything to ensure our stay would be perfect and gave us great advice on things to do and visit to get a real authentic experience. (They suggested a nearby spot for a beach day on the lagoon. The spot was secluded, and felt very intimate and private, with the jungle in the background, it was a bless compared to the crowds in Bacalar. Furthermore Buenavista is a perfect spot to visit Bacalar, but also other attractions nearby like Mahahual, a town on the Caribbean side, the ruins of Chacchoben or doing guided jungle tour.) Be aware there's not much choice for eating out in Buenavista, but you won't need it with the delicious food prepared by Jasmin. We preferred having dinner at Casa Cactus because of how good it was. Me and my girlfriend had the best stay here and would definitely recommend it.

La Aurora Airport is 123 km away, and the property offers a paid airport shuttle service. It’s beautiful, everything about Shanti is luxury and high quality. It’s quiet location, a short 5 minute walk into the hustle and bustle and moments from the beach, provides a tranquil and peaceful space. The staff were so welcoming and helpful from moment of arrival, and served a delicious breakfast in the morning! I was working remote and the Wi-Fi was quick and super reliable, no issues on any of my zoom calls. Everything about Shanti was just perfect and I cannot wait to return.

I had a great stay. Short but very comfortable. I slept very well, the bed is good, the garden is very silent at night. Juan is a great host, always asking what he can do to help. And Roko is a great dog :-) I recommend.

Complimentary WiFi is available throughout the property. One of my favourite hostels I've stayed at! The owner and the tranquil vibes of the place is perfect. It's a small hostel with few guests and nothing crazy going on. I came here to rest and clear my mind which was perfect! But I know a lot of people go to El paredon for partying, so it was so nice to find this quiet and calm place in this town. The beds were also so comfy and each bed has their own fan which I really really appreciated.

We stayed for 3 nights in one of the direct laguna view cabañas and enjoyed tremendously everything: from the hosts, Bernie and Sam who were very welcoming and helpful, to the amazing views and setting, the confort of the rooms to the very nice and healthy food available throughout the day. We liked the place so much that we ended up staying there throughout our stay, just enjoying the beauty of the place. A true slow living experience!

Chetumal International Airport is 41 km away, and the property offers a paid airport shuttle service. Pucte is an amazing chill and beautiful place. There are only three cabins looking at the lagoon. It is very calm and quiet, we spent ours swimming with our kids and just looking at the birds. The cabin is spacious and nice, beds are comfy. We loved the design. There is a coffee machine and a refrigerator which was super helpful since there is no restaurant. But you can get good food in the guest house next door. Bear in mind it is about a 10 min drive to the town which we did about twice a day, for food, groceries or attractions. The staff was super nice. We would definitely come again!

Some units include a seating area and/or a patio. Such a wonderful experience, it is family owned and they are so kind and helpful! My friend and I stayed for 2 nights, our room was at the very back in a big sized building with 4 or 5 seperate rooms. It was so nice to wake up and go to sleep listening to the sounds of the jungle. You arrive by boat so keep in mind you are not close to town but, there is a restaurant at Casa Maya and the food is amazing, well priced and good portions! You can rent kayaks there for a really great price and the reason we choose to stay here is there are so many things to see and explore in the area. You have to kayak or boat but its such a convenient spot to see all there is to see and if you tell the owner what you are planning they will set it up for you/ get proper tour guide/ tell you how to get there and how far things are. The lancha to and from Maya Casa is a bit pricey but that's just how it is, its the only means of transportation to and from Rio Dulce - Livingston and your gonna pay that anywhere you decide to stay in between those two places. It is worth paying especially if you are staying for 2 or more nights, just buy all you need before you leave town. There is a small convenience store 5 min kayak from Maya Casa and other restaurants too. I was more than happy to stay here and support a family business :) very reasonably priced too!

From working with me on a mistaken booking date to rescuing us in a storm when our rental car got stuck in the mud on the way to a waterfall. Eva and another staff member brought us back the next morning in a large 4x4 truck and we were able to pull the SUV out of the mud with a tow strap. Thank you!!!
