Het ontspannen Brisbane ligt aan een meanderende rivier die door het punt heengaat waar de Australische Sunshine Coast en de Gold Coast samenkomen. Aan de zuidbank van de rivier ligt de grootste moderne kunstgalerie van Australië, evenals rustige tuinen en een kunstmatig strand. Aan de overkant is de skyline van Brisbane's CBD te zien. Hier zijn veel hotels in het stadscentrum gevestigd.
In de buurt vindt u de botanische tuinen en Queen Street Mall, het meest populaire winkelcentrum van Brisbane. Er zijn meerdere winkelcentra in de stad te vinden en buiten de stad is er ook een winkelcentrum te vinden in Indooroopilly bij de voet van Mount Coot-tha.
Deze groene heuvel biedt een fantastisch uitzicht op de stad en heeft een planetarium, een natuurreservaat en nog meer botanische tuinen. In Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in het zuiden is het mogelijk om koala's te knuffelen. Een ander mooi uitstapje is de Australia Zoo, het nalatenschap van Steve Irwin.
Brisbane is een lommerrijke stad en in een van de parken - Wickham Park - vindt u de Old Windmill, het oudste gebouw van Brisbane. De voorstad Fortitude Valley in het noordoosten staat bekend om de levendige muziekscene en Chinatown. Aan de overkant van de rivier in Woolloongabba staat The Gabba, ofwel het cricketstadion van Brisbane. De wijk West End ligt hier in de buurt.
