Carnarvon is a quiet coastal town with a relaxed pace.

Carnarvon is a quiet coastal town with a relaxed pace. You’ll find fresh produce at the Gascoyne Growers’ Market and local seafood at nearby cafes. The Fascine waterfront is great for walks and sunset views. Visit the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum for a look at Australia’s role in space history. The One Mile Jetty and Heritage Precinct offer a glimpse into the town’s past. Quobba Blowholes and the nearby coral coast are good for day trips. The town suits short stays and road trips. Accommodation is simple and service is friendly.

Gateway motel

Gateway motel _ we really like the location of the gateway hotel and have stayed twice recently. we usually bring our own towels as we frequently stopover in Carnarvon through from Karratha we were traveling in a rush this time. the service was good, and the location and price is always good. in saying that we would like you to know - Towels were extremely thin and had visible holes _ cleanliness of room was questionable on bed side tables, above door and on windows. _ please consider replacing the shower rose so a taller person does not hit their head. _ the water pressure was fair, but with a better shower rose that will be fixed - the hot water took a long time to come through, I feel we wasted a lot of water waiting for it to get warm both in the shower and kitchen.

Carnarvon is the place to be in the winter months when further south is cold and miserable, if you have your own vehicle it's only a small town so easy to find what you need, Airport is in town for those who travel by plane.

On my trip I had planned to stay at carnarvon but was advised not to and just to drive through. So I dud, but I liked it so much I decided to ignore the advice and stayed for two nights on my return journey. You must visit the NASA space centre for a few hours. That place is amazing. The walks over to the islands across the bridge a great day starter and a visit to the old historical area and museum near the one mile jetty are also great. Drive through the farming area along the Gascoyne and check out giant Humpty and the mural on the house.

There are a number of good places to visit that cover history - Gwoonwardu Mia, Carnarvon Space & Technology Museum and the Heritage Precinct. Be aware that quite a few things are not open on Sundays including the visitors centre. Found the Fruit Loop a bit of a disappointment - maybe because it was Sunday? The private cactus garden on the Fruit Loop is well worth the donation to be able to walk through and photograph. Currently the town is a little nervous due to crime - the takeaway we went to locked up after we left as they were on their own that day and didn't feel safe - that was around 7pm.

The Carnarvon motel was better than I expected: good value for the price, bed was very comfortable and the place was quiet enough for a good sleep. The reception personnel was welcoming, the restaurant on site had good options, and the location was convenient as well. Despite some other reviews we felt safe at night and appreciated the closed gate overnight. Would definitely stay there again in Carnarvon.

Friendly staff. Value for money. Generous room size. Clean. Comfortable bed. Included in booking continental breakfast with multiple food and beverage options. Recommend to others. If ever we visit Carnarvon again will stay here. Thank you.

Easily walkable to Woolworths and along the waterfront. The Blowholes and especially snorkeling at The Aquarium 70kms north of Carnarvon are well worth the visit.

Nice to have a bit of space and at a reasonable price. Kitchenette for self catering. Located close enough to the highway turnoff to bypass Carnarvon centre.
