FAQs about hotels in Hobart

Historic City Comes of Age

Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.

The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.

Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.

Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.

The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.

    Hobart is really developing.

Hobart is really developing. The food scene is improving and there are a number of things to do within a short drive. Mona is worth the visit, and the markets were the best they have been in a while. Get a car and have a drive around, you'll be surprised.

Such a beautiful, historic and interesting city which we thoroughly enjoyed exploring. The traffic was easy, people kind and friendly, food and coffee delicious and lots of local, independent shops to visit. The history was so interesting and we really appreciated the beauty of the buildings. The tourist board has done a fabulous job of making the European history come to life, and did not shy away from the the effects on the indigenous inhabitants in each area without embellishing or dramatising the facts. The staff at these places were deeply engaging and highly knowledgeable and their passion was infectioius. We left Tasmania knowing we will return, so thanks to everyone we met for making our too short visit a wonderful experience

    Hobart is Tasmanias capital city.

Hobart is Tasmanias capital city. It features a charming waterfront area with cobblestone streets and busy markets, along with historic sandstone warehouses now housing hip cafes and galleries. A trio of museums includes the Maritime Museum of Tasmania. The main shopping area is easy to walk around and there is a great variety of shops. There are many restaurants close to the Allurity Hotel. I ate at a little restaurant next to Target in the Elizabeth Street Mall. Combination fried rice with chicken and cashew nuts was just $13.50. Down at the harbor you will fine excellent fresh fish meals. Booking.com features a selection of activities. I highly recommend the Red decker bus tour of Hobart. Do please visit Mount Wellington for stunning views and if you have time the town of Richmond. These are all Red Decker bus tours. You can do river cruises including one that goes to Bruny Island. I have enjoyed the dinner cruise which goes up the Derwent River. If you are lucky you can see whales close in to the city.

We enjoyed walking around the city entre and appreciated the historic architecture, especially St David's Cathedral. We also enjoyed visiting Salamanca Place even though the markets weren't on at the time. We took a one hour boat trip around the harbour and the captain gave a most entertaining and informative commentary - it was well worth doing!

The city has a plethora of attractions to visit and sample plus a huge number of restaurants, cafes and vintage pubs to dine in. The city is compact to allow you to dine differently without long travel distances. Weather can be unpredictable at times.

The thing I like most about Hobart was that all of the attractions- beaches, marinas, good food, museums and botanic gardens, were within walkable distance. There were so many lovely parks and gardens, and my favorite of all; the number of significant buildings which have been restored and maintained and available for visitors to see. We mostly walked around Hobart, except for transport to and from the airport, and a drive to Mt Wellington.

Beautiful modern spacious warehouse style apartment with lovely red brick right in the centre of Hobart. In the CBD, & 2 mins to the waterfront. Great location. Apartment is modern and light filled. 2 double rooms both with own bathroom which was great. Large comfortable lounge area. The host was accommodating to late check out. The apartment is in the top floor of a small office building.

The staff were welcoming and friendly. Having a restaurant on site was great and the rooms had everything you would need for a comfortable stay. The units are actually outside of the hotel so away from any noise that might be made by patrons. The location is on the outskirts of hobart but not too far from the airport

Ideally situated close to the wharves and CBD, we found this hotel to be perfect for a group. Short walk to restaurants, bars and Salamanca Market, and cheap overnight parking. The beds were so comfortable, and our apartment had a full kitchen and laundry which was exactly what we needed after a few days of travel.
