FAQs about hotels in Melbourne

Buzzy Jewel of Aussie Rules

A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, where you can walk through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.

The city’s most recognizable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the color of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.

Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping center has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.

South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this isn't the city’s only sports heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules soccer and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.

Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodations from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

Melbourne is one of the best cities in the world.

Melbourne is one of the best cities in the world. Definitely world’s sporting capital. It had everything bayside beaches (and surf - a day trip), great art gallery, botanical gardens and Arts precinct. Very multicultural and this is reflected in the range of cuisines available. The coffee culture is equal to Europe. Love, love, love this city.

Melbourne is a great city to visit with many interesting things to see and do - we went to see 'MJ the musical' at Her Majesty's Theatre and was well worth the ticket price. The shopping is outstanding and the variety of good quality restaurants is difficult to match. In particular, we enjoyed Movida and Nobu. Just a shame about the weather when we viisted (6-10 November).

In Melbourne there are plenty of concerts, theatres, and sporting activities to do. And Melbourne has great public transport! I loved the food & coffee in the Brunswick & Carlton area. I recommend a tour of The Great Ocean Road! With, Wine Hop And Coastal Tours; via GetYourGuide. My tour guide was, Emily. Heads up:- Suggest packing some warm clothes and a raincoat. It’s needed all year around in Melbourne!

I found Melbourne to be a very interesting and aesthetic...

I found Melbourne to be a very interesting and aesthetic city with wonderful lanes and cafes. I was not happy with the VLine travel advisor - I went to the Hub at Southern Cross Station specifically for a map of Melbourne Central with tram and stations as well as roads and landmarks. The advisor (Sam) gave me two maps and made annotations about stop and line etc which did not have the detail I asked or to enable me to navigate the streets. As an afterthought he gave me a Visitor booklet for sightseeing. I used the maps he annotated but became lost. My phone does not work in Melbourne for some reason. I was lost all of Saturday and one of my daughters was so upset she refused to attend the concert we had booked for Saturday night. I was looking at the visitor booklet on Sunday and found a map of Melbourne with all of the features I had asked for. This was not given to me with any comment. I felt that "Sam" was being tricky. It clearly meant nothing to him whether we found our way around Melbourne. My impression of Melbourne apart from the hotel is smart alec ungenerous people who resent visitors. I will not be back to Melbourne in a hurry. Thank goodness for the Hotel. We ate room service meals for two days because we could not find anything in the streets.

I had a fantastic stay at Melbourne Private Apartments – Collins Wharf Waterfront in Docklands. The location is excellent, with the free tram stop just across the street, making it so easy to get around the city. The apartment itself was spotless, beautifully maintained, and offered a stunning waterfront view that made the stay even more special. Highly recommended!

It's location is perfect for any CBD activities. Only a short walk to/from Southern Cross station, the city centre and Southbank. The reception staff were magnificent and helpful...and our room was very clean, contemporary, well appointed and comfortable. We'll definitely stay there again for our theatre-going short breaks in Melbourne.

YEHS Hotel Melbourne CBD is very conveniently located in the city centre of Melbourne. It's only a five-minute walk from the Southern Cross station. The hotel's location and the kindness of its staff were the only things that were nice about my stay there.
