The whole village is steeped in the ,1890s history of the place. When.we bought some items in the PO they were wrapped in ORIGINALAug 1870 newspaper pages. not copies. everyone super friendly but weirdly exotic e.g the pub closed at 3pm because of a wind warning but not before the patrons had been provided with bottles of wine to drink outside. For Australia. .... Weirdly outstanding with no sense of anyone playing a part. Electricity only arrived in 1998. probably won't last ... Half the property's for sale. See it now.

with only 20 permanent residents this town once a thriving gold mining centre once had 4000 residents! great for lovers of nature, history and a quiet magical escape. Everyone is super friendly and the gold mining tour and gold railways trips are worth doing

Walhalla is beautiful!

Walhalla is beautiful! Such a picturesque town that preserved their history and brings you straight back to the gold rush era. We went to the gold mine tour, and even my five year old enjoyed herself walking through the tunnels and looking at the fascinating artefacts. The tour guide Karen was excellent, knowledgeable, interesting and genuinely engaged. She was so kind to lend her jumper to my daughter when it got really cold in the deep parts of the mine and she saw my kid struggling with it. We did not eat out as we cooked all our meals, but there is a pub that serves dinner (except Tuesdays) and a cafe (not open in August) for brekkie. There were hiking tracks that we did not have a chance to go on as the littler one could not walk yet, and carrying a 10kg would have broke my wife or my back. Definitely would have loved to give it a try as the scenery was amazing. All in all, somewhere that one could go as a 3D2N to experience a small gold rush town.

Walhalla is a gem!

Walhalla is a gem! Fantastic historical town run mainly by volunteers; so much to explore; walk up to the cricket ground, tour the gold mine, explore the cemetery, and take the night ghost tour, all great experiences. The volunteers are a wealth of knowledge who love this town. Beautiful scenery and the hour long train ride scenic tour a delight. Highly recommend a weekend in Walhalla.

It is impressive the history of the town, and the large amount of stuff you can actually do there. A weekend won´t be enough at all...the mine, the Old Cemetery, Ghost Tour, the Chinese gardens, the Gold Train...and 20 minutes away from the Ski zones (Mt St Gwinear and Baw Baw...)

Stunning location, incredible history and lots to see

Stunning location, incredible history and lots to see Come prepared- warm clothes and the right footwear for the weather Few shops to speak of and what there are seem to make up their hours so bring your food and drinks. Pub in town does counter meals but not every night so check. The one cafe is not always open - bring your coffee and tea supplies in case Take advantage of the history and the pride the town has it by visiting the cemetery and the amazing cricket ground (it’s a very long and steep walk but worth the effort) Walk around town is easy though. It is a beautiful town

We had a great stay. The property was clean, spacious and well-equipped. The location in the heart of town gave us easy access to all that Walhalla has to offer. The fenced in yard was an extra bonus so that our furry friends could come along. The host was responsive when we had an enquiry, and check-in was easy. Would definitely recommend and stay again!

This is a wonderful historic cottage in the living museum that is Walhalla. It is the perfect place to stay, right in the centre of Walhalla, with great views across town and lovely grounds to relax in. We'd highly recommend a trip to Walhalla, and when you do, make sure you stay at sancreed Cottage.

Beautiful location ( we love Walhalla). Love the house, wood heater, beautiful views looking out every window. Big kitchen, plenty of space, comfortable beds and bedding. Plenty of things in the house for everyone, books, games, toys.
