FAQs about hotels in Ottawa

A Symbol of Canadian Pride

On the south bank of the Ottawa River, the Canadian capital Ottawa is a grand symbol of what the country stands for: bilingualism, civic pride and wonderful vistas.

Facing Langevin Block (the prime minister’s office) is the city’s most famous landmark - the Centre Block parliament building. Its tall central tower and circular parliamentary library make a great photograph from Gatineau across the river, which is joined to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rideau Canal by a series of locks. Skating on the frozen canal is a highlight of the huge Ottawa Winterlude festival.

The city’s history is detailed in Bytown Museum by the locks. Opposite is peaceful Major’s Hill Park, overlooked by Château Laurier, a historic hotel named after a former prime minister. Also named after him is Laurier House, his seat of office. Other important national buildings include the Royal Canadian Mint, Supreme Court, and Rideau Hall, the Queen’s official residence when in the country.

The business district and Ottawa Convention Centre are in Downtown, and nearby shopping options include Rideau Mall and ByWard Market - the oldest farmers’ market in Canada and the area with the best nightlife.

Ottawa accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with pools, B&Bs with parking and apartments near the train station, all easily accessible from MacDonald-Cartier Airport.

Late summer trip with great sunshine, everyone was having a good time around the Byward market, with a drums band. Local fete in Chinatown on Sunday. Pleasant walk along the Parliament hill and river & canal. Plenty of food to try, with small stalls & shops as well as bigger ones. Easy to travel (train from airport is cheap, very clean and modern), rented a bike to get a good view of the city and Gatineau accross the river.

I love that there are beautiful parks all over the city.

I love that there are beautiful parks all over the city. There's always a place to sit and rest. There are so many things to do, beautiful sites to see, museums, beautiful walking trails. It's amazing that you can walk into another province and visit a museum, then walk back. We stayed 3 days in the downtown core, walked 37 km during that time and still didn't have anough time to explore and see everything we wanted to. People in the stores, restaurants, hotel, are friendly, helpful and always "there". You can go, park your vehicle and not need it until it's time to go home!

I was only there because I had appointments at the hospital but Ottawa is an excellent tourist city with lots to see and do and it is an atractive city in general. There are plenty of places to eat good food as well as fast food and plenty of shopping to satisfy anyone. A short trip over one of the bridges brings you into the neighbouring town of Gatineau which is also a great place to visit. Hopefully next time we'll visit as tourists rather than having medical tests done.

Ottawa is an interesting city to visit with plenty of sights, galleries and museums. Unfortunately there are a lot of homeless who can be a little intimidating. Off all the cities we visited in Canada it also had the worst litter problem although nothing compared to some other countries.

Ottawa is a beautiful city filled with many parks and museums. The cultural amenities are outstanding, which is hardly surprising since it's the nation's capital. Elgin street is lined with excellent restaurants and bars. I never tire of visiting Canada's capital.

The place was great! It's a well preserved old house that has all the amenities we needed for an awesome stay. Pierre, the host, is a very welcoming person who cares about his guests and really strives to offer a great service. On top of that, the place has free private parking, and it's within walking distance from all the main attractions in downtown, which makes it pretty convenient. I'll definetely book this place again when I come back to Ottawa.

The staff were very nice and accommodating, we were there for a sports event and we needed to take a shower after so the owner extended our checkout to 1:30 pm which was very much appreciated. The area around the hotel was very quiet, and the seating area outside is well shielded from the road so you can easily picnic there for dinner. It was only 15 min drive from downtown Ottawa , and few minutes drive from many restaurants and grocery stores.

The downtown location was perfect - just where we wanted to be. Very walkable. The Suite was roomy and the bed was very comfortable. There is paid parking underground at the hotel run by J-park which is super convenient. This detail is not provided in the hotel information.
