Quebec City is a beautiful and unique travel destination...

Quebec City is a beautiful and unique travel destination rich in history. I enjoyed a walking tour that helped orient me in the area, but I was a bit disappointed as the tour guide didn't always provide accurate information about Quebec's history or its indigenous population. For example, Christopher Columbus never set foot in Canada, never mind Quebec. After a few days, I found myself wishing I had rented a car to explore areas outside of downtown. I wanted to see more than just the main sights. While bus tours cover some attractions, they tend to focus on the most popular spots, which can feel a bit touristy and lacking in authenticity. Like many high-traffic tourist areas, Quebec City has an over abundance of souvenir shops and overpriced stores. I also recommend avoiding daytime visits when cruise ships are in port; as downtown gets overcrowded, reminiscent of a jam packed day at Disneyland. Overall, the city's charm and beauty do make it worth a visit.

We stayed in the old city area.

We stayed in the old city area. It took us 5 hours from Lincoln by car to get there through beautiful foliage. After checking in to our hotel we went for a guided tour of the Fairmont Chateau Castle Hotel. We parked our car at the hotel. We then did the hop on/hop off red bus tour but did not get off at any of the 18 stops but enjoyed seeing the city from the bus. It was a great way to get a feel of the city. The 2nd day we did a walking tour of the old city which was fascinating. We are elderly but still able to go up and down hills and stairs. It was a total of 6 miles on the tour and the tour starting point was 3 walking miles away from our hotel. We highly recommend all the tours we did. It was worth the ride. It is not easy to get around by car in the old city but there are lots of car parking areas. We had dinner at the Royal William Hotel where we stayed for the one night. I highly recommend the Hotel which was at a reasonable price and located near the old city.

Beautiful walled City with lovely strolls along promenades.

Beautiful walled City with lovely strolls along promenades. Very French in appearance and atmosphere. We loved it! The Citadel is very interesting and explains Quebec’s history with the French, the English and with the USA and walking the walls are a must with great views all around including the St. Lawrence river. We found a wonderful quirky bar we really liked for a cheap plate of food and great beer called La Cuisuine. We visited three times so we really liked it. We walked everywhere which is easy to do if hilly!

We stayed in Quebec City for two nights and really enjoyed our time. The highlight was simply walking around the city during the day, especially in the beautiful historic part – full of charm and character. We also loved starting our mornings at the local boulangeries, which gave us a real taste of the city’s French atmosphere. The only downside was the limited choice of food at the supermarket, which wasn’t quite what we expected. Still, overall, it was a memorable stay and a wonderful experience to explore the city’s history and culture.

Very convenient location away from the hustle of the old town. Nice walks along the waterfront. Easy location from the railway station which was useful having seen the long line waiting for cabs. For stays of 3 days or more, the hotel is able to provide a free bus pass valid for the duration of stay. Very useful indeed. Great staff who went the extra mile when we made various requests such as finding alternative for items left at home,

Decent 3 star hotel. Good responsive staff, reasonable breakfast. Wouldn't mind staying there again. A plus was the closeness of course to the airport, and just 15 - 20 minutes to downtown, and half hour to the OLD town. A Cineplex just across the road that we actually used!
