The suite dubbed "stand-alone" was ideal for me. I was mesmerized as just how close to the water that the deck was - I could hear waves lapping on the rocks with the sliding door closed. The queen bed was clean and comfortable and the suite well-equipped. An updated hot plate negated any real need for a stove - there isn't space for one anyway. Full washroom. Good enough internet and a great TV. A useful selection of literature weeks before your stay re:suggested hikes etc. is easily accessed. Your Host is very responsive and will send you a text with tips. ie. Bikes for rent locally and how to utilize the ferry strategically and cheaply. I had 6 sailings for a grand total of $11.60. ie. Any travel between islands is technically free. And, ... the drinking water is just fine. A 700 m (10 minute walk to Burger Barn - a local favourite) With planning, flexibility, and maybe good luck, you can quickly slow down - shrug your shoulders - the fog will lift. Become an islander.

The view was beautiful, and with weather conditions being very windy and rainy, the cottage was cozy and comfortable. The proximity to the beach, walking areas and limited shopping was perfect, as it was the Christmas holidays, and we felt like the only tourists in town! Our host was responsive to our every need as promised!

Great accommodation! From the terrace you have a spectacular view of the water. Here we saw seals and sea otters. I still got pasta with chicken even though we arrived late in the evening. We also got a better room for free. The owner was incredibly friendly. It was a great stay. Greetings from Germany

I loved the room with all its coziness and outdoor deck with blankies. I so appreciated all the comfort from the owners as well. I was grieving and they took their personal time to acknowledge that and comfort and pray for me. I shall be forever grateful. Thx ever so much.

only one word: AMAZING. My family and I enjoyed the accommodation so much! Apart from the fact that the building itself (partly an old church, partly an old school) is incredibly beautiful and has been furnished and restored with great attention to detail, the hosts were super friendly and accommodating! We learned a lot about Alert Bay and even though the island is very small, you can still experience so much here. The islanders are also very friendly and always up for a good chat. Overall a great stay, we would have liked to stay a little longer to explore the neighboring islands from there. And of course it should be mentioned that we could even see whales from the beach!

It was quaint and peaceful. No restaurants or pubs.

It was quaint and peaceful. No restaurants or pubs. Bring some food. Rest can be purchased at the small co-op. Coffee shop for tea or coffee and breakfast if you wish is most excellent and affordable. We loved how little there was to do, we walked and biked all around taking pictures and chilling. Everyone was friendly. Beautiful sunsets.

Life in Sointula is as people should live.

Life in Sointula is as people should live. Chickens squawking, sheep bleating and no one gets upset if they have to wait a few seconds to pass a narrowing in the road for "traffic" - meaning a car - to clear. Anyone with an appreciation for "quirky" personalization, artisanship and meticulously kept yards well adorned with flowers will love Sointula. You are never away from nature, either the forest or the sea here.
