I stayed at Hotel Con Corazón after a last-minute change from a bad Airbnb, and it completely transformed my trip. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, even late at night, and helped me feel immediately safe and supported. The hotel is modern, stylish, minimalist, spotless, and has beautiful views. Breakfast was excellent, and the whole place feels newly designed and very comfortable. What makes this stay truly special is the hotel’s mission: profits support children’s education in the local community. It’s meaningful, responsible tourism at its best. A fantastic stay — highly recommended.

Way To Heaven is truly a gem! We arrived late in the evening, and the owner kindly greeted us upon arrival and gave us a full tour of the property. To our surprise, he had prepared coffee, tea, fruit, snacks, and drinks to welcome us—such a thoughtful gesture that immediately made us feel at home. When we woke up the next morning, we were absolutely blown away by the view. Nestled in the heart of the cloud forest, the setting is nothing short of magical. The place itself is spotless, with an incredibly comfortable bed and soft bedding. Extra blankets were also available, which was a nice touch for the cooler nights. It’s super close to Monteverde town and all the major attractions and activities in the area. Don’t overthink it—just book! You won’t regret it.

I loved the concept of the hotel, it was just exquisite. I am deeply thankful for Natalia, the lovely concierge, who was just exceptionally kind and made it so that all our questions and all the activities were well arranged. I also want to thank Stephen, who took care that our room was in pristine cleanliness every time, and I also remember the lovely staff at the restaurant (Paola, Vio, Hazel, Axel, Carla) who were just a joy every time they helped for breakfast, dinner or cocktail classes. The hotel's facilities were incredible, the garden is something else to behold, the concept they have from farm (Finca Madre Tierra) to table is something deeply educational that I recommend people try, and the nightfall Savia experience with Daniel si just magical. And on top of that, there's oodles of fun to be had at the brewery, so cheers to Hotel Belmar for making it all so special for me.

A trip to Monteverde is one of the big ticks on the list for visitors to Costa Rica. Getting there is quite hard going on dreadful roads. Not ideal for anyone with any back or joint problems. It is a wet area so expect downpours and to feel damp at all times even when it is dry outside. The main reason to visit is to see the cloud forests and for zip lining, otherwise there isn’t much else to do in the area. Other attractions such as Ranali frog pond, the butterfly garden are poor and not worth the time or money. I stayed for 3 days and it was too long. My favourite thing overall was seeing the hummingbirds at Monteverde cloud forest - not in the forest itself, but in a cafe area just before the entrance to the cloud forest!

If you like cooler temperatures, rainy & windy mountains in...

If you like cooler temperatures, rainy & windy mountains in remote Costa Rica then this is for you. Its a unique experience to be that high up above sea level and theres plenty to do outside between coffee tours, ziplines & hikes. But in terms of the town itself, theres not a lot going on and its expensive but I guess thats what you pay for tranquility & remoteness. And if you're driving up there you better have a 4x4 or AWD vehicle because the majority of the roads up here are unpaved & windy AF. Spots to check out that made our trip: Don Juan Coffee Farm, the Butterfly Sanctuary, El Tigre Waterfalls, Kinkajou Night walk, 100% Aventura Ziplines for the longest Zipline in Latin America & lastly tree climbing at Finca Modelo. If you want to try authentic Costa Rican food (because hello why not!) skip out on the expensive restaurants and go to Pizzeria 3R y el Sazón de Mary - best part is that they're open late. Food was bomb! Overall, I wouldn't spend more than 2.5 days up here.

4-wheel drive recommended, but not essential. My six-year old particularly enjoyed the animal experiences: sloths, frogs, snakes and butterflies at the Selvatura Adventure Park (which was expensive but worth it - very knowledgeable guides) and also the Bat Jungle. My favourite experience was walking the trails in the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve - very well marked and options for different levels of ability.

Loved the adventure parks (selvatura sloth rescue is a must!) and area restaurants Bon appetit and taco taco. Chocolate and coffee tour also worthwhile. Night tours more insect and reptile focused than in other areas. Roads in the area are very narrow and twisty, hard for motion sickness travellers.

Great place for hikers.

Great place for hikers. Unfortunately most places you have to pay to enter and it's not cheap. But there are a few free places you can walk if you do your research. There is loads of stuff to do for everyone. Families and adventure junkies.

If you love the outdoors, go to Monteverde.

If you love the outdoors, go to Monteverde. We did a coffee/sugarcane/chocolate tour, a wildlife refuge tour, night time nature walk, zip lining, and a sloth experience. There were lots of different restaurants and we loved all of the ones we visited.

The hotel was very welcoming and had everything we needed for our visit to Monteverde. Location was great for the park. Good food in the bar and all staff were very personable in their approach. There was no heating in the room and it was quite cold at times. However we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
