Great location, in the center of Altenburg, this is an older hotel, but it's a good place to stay. The staff is friendly. The room was good, mine had a big bathroom. There's limited parking next to the hotel, but you can also park on the square in front of the hotel. This is paid parking, but prices are reasonable. The town is very nice, there are plenty of restaurants and a picturesque city center.

The hotel was located right across from the Altenburg train station which meant that it was very easy to walk over to the hotel from the S5 with luggage. I had to book two rooms for my family of four, but the price was very, very affordable. Rooms were large and clean and the staff was very helpful and courteous. Although we didn't get to enjoy the bar, it was very cozy and well-apportioned. Really, the hotel exceeded my expectations. My only regret is that we only spent one night in Altenburg before moving on to Leipzig. I do plan on returning to Altenburg in the future and will definitely plan on staying at the Hotel Astor again.

Altenburg is a beautiful and unspoiled 'Residenz' town in Thuringia, with many buildings beautifully restored, others needing a lot of renovation/restoration. There was no war and no bombing in this part of Germany, so the town is essentially unspoiled, but needing investment and attention. The town is organized around the Palace, which is at the highest point overlooking the town. The Theater Cafe, across from the renovated theater, has excellent food, very friendly staff, and great value for money. Altogether, Altenburg represents great value for money.

I only had one night and it was too hot to really do a lot.

I only had one night and it was too hot to really do a lot. Altenburg town centre left me feeling a little sad. It was quite run down. Hardly any bars or restaurants open. Many empty/boarded up shops. It was easy to see it had been a beautiful town once. I hardly heard German spoken as I wandered around at 7pm on a Thursday evening. The Schlosspark is beautiful. Altenburg is certainly worth a visit but .....

It is a nice, clean and comfortable apartment in the City Central location - Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße 7, 04600 Altenburg. The owner wen extra mile and was very helpful with getting us accomodated at late arrival after 12 midnight (as our flight were delated and we had to travel from Berlinn to Altenburg in the evening)

Very nicely located hotel in the middle of town, with excellent rooms and even more excellent breakfast! The staff were very nice indeed, and the hotel had adequate bicycle storage facilities, which we needed.
