FAQs about hotels in Tallinn

From Middle-ages to Modernity

Wander along the narrow cobbled streets of the medieval city of Tallinn and marvel at the fashion forward culture existing comfortably alongside tradition.

14th century church spires wind their way into the sky on top of the Toompea hill which rises in the centre of town. Outside the city walls modernity reveals itself through soviet-style concrete buildings and contemporary glass skyscrapers.

A multitude of shopping opportunities are available especially along Viru Street, with several rising Estonian designer boutiques side by side with traditional crafts of woven fabrics, pottery and glass blowing. The café culture abounds and visitors can soak up the friendly atmosphere between purchases. Restaurants on the colourful Raekoja Plats offer a chance to try traditional Estonian fare.

Situated on the Gulf of Finland, a popular day trip is by boat to Helsinki. With a location so close to the water, the sandy beaches are a popular summer destination for locals and visitors alike. In the winter the beauty of buildings such as the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is hard to beat. With over 60 self-catering apartments and hotels available on Booking.com, you can live like a king in this pretty Estonian capital.

It's my hometown.

It's my hometown. As a local, I found it too much, so I did what any sane person or other Estonian would do and moved to live in the middle of a forest. For a tourist though, I would highly recommend Tallinn. It's a cute, cozy, walkable town and has so much history to learn about. Take a 3-day trip here, stay in a cheap hotel 20 minutes from the Old Town and have a blast seeing the contrast of the ancient, the old and the new. Beware of the restaurants in old town though, all places seem great, but few truly are. I'd suggest visiting Telliskivi area or Põhja-Tallinn in general, loooooads of great places to choose from both for dinner and drinks.

Tallinn is a beautiful and relaxed city.

Tallinn is a beautiful and relaxed city. I could stay there forever. The architecture is beautiful with a mix of styles. There are so many restaurants and coffee shops. Very convenient and easy to use public transport. So many good museums. People are kind though quiet. It's just right.

Quite a bit to walk around and see, have to pay for most toilets, quite a few shopping centres if you seek them out. I did the main bits in a day and a half, all on foot - some very tourists places to eat which are not worth the money. Locals are generally rude, not actively rude just mono - english is spoken less than i thought especially older people.

Tallinn might be the city I have visited the most times by choice. It is small enough that a weekend feels sufficient to see a lot of it, while making one want to go back for more. If you like dumplings, you have to try those at Pelmen kohvik. I drop by there every time I go to Tallinn.

A lovely city.

A lovely city. The old medieval center is delightful, but do venture further afield. We ate at Barbarea in a repurposed warehouse in the old Navy yards (very good, and interesting location) and at the Fotografiska restaurant (superb) as well as taking the tram to Kumi, the Art Museum that is not to be missed (with excellent cafe for lunch). Kadriog Park through which we walked to get to Kumi is lovely too, with a Peter the Great Palace to admire as well. Do go to the City Market on the other side of the train station from the old city - amazing fresh produce stalls, older ladies with hand knitted items, antique stalls on the 2nd floor, great food stalls on 1st floor, Back in the old city, don't skip the Esti handicraft stores, and for wonderful linens, yarns and other crafts do stop by Domus Line, and finish with afternoon tea with the locals at Rukis. A tour from a local guide is a good choice on the first day to get oriented and learn the history of this exquisite place. Those medieval streets can be confusing at first!

Very nice hotel in old town. Very good breakfast and very good price for the quality. Parking or access by car is tricky but if you don't mind walking for 10 minutes then actually even free parking zone is close enough. Very good for couple of nights of sightseeing in Tallinn

Excellent value for money! A modern hotel halfway between the ferry terminal and the old town. The beds could have been from a 5 star hotel. Will definitely be back the next time I come to Tallinn.
