Caceres is a lovely old mediaeval city, walled and interesting, but not too touristy. We will certainly go back, because there's more to see (even though it's a compact old town, there's a lot there). The bars and restaurants aren't a rip-off: we had a very good menu del dia for 17 euros - slightly more than one would pay in a village restaurant or a via de servicio, but we were on the Plaza Mayor, just below the city walls, and the food was excellent and very generous. Caceres is well worth a trip.Theres lots to see and much atmosphere to soak up.Nice friendly city/town with many nearby places worth a visit such as Truillo and Guadalupe......Actually the historic architecture in both Caceres and Truillo is something to write home about!..If your into nature there are literally scores of square Kms of wild flowers in the surrounding countryside thanks to light touch farming practises and this brings many insects which in turn bring many birds and other creatures...Definitely worth a trip is the national park in Monfrague so youll need to hire a car to get the best of that type of thing.Guest review bymichaelIreland - 8.0

Spain at Easter time is generally complicated. But even so, we managed to book restaurants without any major problems and visit the main attractions. Cáceres is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain (and I say this as someone who has seen many), with a fantastic historic center and lots to see, including in the surrounding area — Mérida, Cáceres, Trujillo, Los Barruecos... A city rich with history and beauty - and worth the time of...
A city rich with history and beauty - and worth the time of a few weeks to explore. Expect to climb hills as you wander the narrow streets and steep steps around the old town. The historic centre is beautiful and interesting.
The historic centre is beautiful and interesting. The rest of the town is sadly shabby and in need of considerable investment. We lucked out on seeing the incredible festivities welcoming in Semana Santa. Fantastic enthusiasm by all and wonderful community spirit. Great to see both young and older people involved. Cáceres was a bit disappointing.
Cáceres was a bit disappointing. The old walled city was interesting and beautiful but only takes a few hours to go through. Thankfully our hotel was right next to that and the area close by had nice cafes and shops. The rest of the city didn't look very interesting. The main reason to stay here, probably, is the Roman ruins in Merida which are amazing. The town of Merida is.... not impressive until you realize it's over 2000 years old and there are Roman ruins all over the place. Perfect location just off the motorway as we booked it as travelling through Spain to Portugal. Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. Great choice at breakfast. Good size room and bathroom. Spa a welcome treat after all the driving. About 10 minutes drive to Caceres the old town is amazing, visit if you can; we got a taxi in from the hotel and had tapas restaurant recommended from the hotel reception which was right in the old town (where they were filming Game of Thrones!) and it was fantastic.Guest review byCarolePortugal
