I went with only a bicycle so didn't travel far, usually less than 20 miles in one direction. Tabayesco is on a major cycling road, and there are many cyclists on the various roads every day. The roads generally have a decent paved shoulder, and there are some roads dedicated as being primarily for cyclists. The reason I think 4 weeks was a bit long is that riding the same roads got a bit boring. The scenery on the island is all rocks, so not that stimulating. What's good is the plentiful small towns which all have cafes offering espresso for $1 Euro.
If like us you want a relaxing break with an authentic Spanish feel then this is the place. The apartment offered everything that we could have wanted plus much more. The location was quiet and scenic just off the main road so we were able to explore the north of the island. The host was wonderful and told us about the fish restaurant down on the beach where we ended up eating every day as the food, service, and price were magnificent. I have stayed in many apartments but this was by far the best. I would rate higher than 10 if i could, the attention to detail was immaculate!
If you are not a fan of crowded resorts and being hassled into bars & restaurants then Tabayesco is the ideal location. A 15/20 minute walk to bars restaurants & a supermarket in Arrieta. A 20/25 minute walk into Mala where there are a few more restaurants, Also for mountain bikers the trails start in and around Tabayesco. Be ready to grind up the hills, but totally worth the effort for the amazing scenery.
