The small hotel is at the very gates of the national park, which makes it a perfect place to start a longer hike or to have a base for shorter ones. The area is very calm, there were even a few reindeers grazing grass in front of my window. The room was clean, and had everything I needed for just one night. The room included a hefty breakfast, and there is also a sauna that’s available for guests. The staff has been very friendly.

The rooms are somewhat old but well-maintained and clean. The breakfast was a hearty spread with some vegetarian options. The staff was the best thing about the place and were very helpful. They had sledges for pulling kids along and good advice for where to go for a hike. The sauna was free to use between evening hours and was well maintained. There is a small market within the place and if you don't want to, you don't need to go out in the cold to buy microwavable food, milk, beer, or souvenirs. Perfect place for a snowy vacation.

A beautiful cabin in the woods, we arrived with our 4 kids and had a great time playing in the snow, enjoying time inside in the homely living area, toasting marshmallows and going to some of the local areas. This was exactly what we were looking for, would have loved to have had more time there.

    Saariselka is a wonderland in winter.

    Saariselka is a wonderland in winter. You can easily get all the required things such as food from K-market. There are lots of activities you can do in Saariselka such as skiing, snowshoeing, Ice Karting, bowling, Aurora Hunting tours, etc. You can easily reach here from Rovaniemi City by using public bus. There is a Ski bus that runs between Saariselka village and Saarselka Ski resort. I did my beginner ski lesson here. It was great. I spent my Christmas holidays here and most things are available to do. I did my skiing on Christmas day itself.

    We spent a total of 7 days in Lapland. 2 near Ivalo, 3 in...

    We spent a total of 7 days in Lapland. 2 near Ivalo, 3 in Kiilopaa, 2 in Saariselka proper. As a family some liked Ivalo better, others Kiilopaa, and others Saariselka. We stayed for 7 days to maximize our chances to see the Northern Lights and were fortunate to see them for 2 nights in a row. If we weren’t concerned about seeing Northern Lights, in terms of special “Lapland specific” experiences, I would have been satisfied with maybe 2 or 3 nights (husky, reindeer, snowmobile, ice fishing). But, if you spend extra days, there’s plenty to do — ice karting, cross country ski, snow shoe-Ing, ski/snowboarding, Siida museum, etc.

    Amazing resort away from the hustle and bustle and commerciality of busier Lapland resorts. Lovely nature walks, lots of family activities like husky rides, skiing, snow shoeing etc. and very cost accommodation.

    Saariselka was fabulous in August, there were very few other tourists around so it was lovely and quiet. Lots of people drive up to the highest point for the sunset but our Glass Cube was just a few hundred metres away, on the other side of the hill, so we could just saunter up to enjoy the view. Met reindeer on the way back.

    Its very very Beautiful ,Do the Northern Lights chasing & the Husky Rides with Arctic Timetravels . They are the best. Saariselka is Untouched, amazing & virgin. Difficult to express in words as you should visit to feel the place, its Heaven on Earth.

    If you're going skiing, Saariselkä is a good option and you can stay there for a week, for example. If you are looking for the Northern Lights, maybe 3 nights would be ok, but you you should pray for good weather, with clear skies, and , of course, for the aurora to appear.

    Location is not super convenient compared to the center, but definitely a beautiful and comfortable place to stay. Having said that there are bus directly go to the Saariselkä center and Rovaniemi, tho in winter there may not a lot of scheduled buses. There is ski trail and definitely great place to ski. Room is comfortable and nice view from the window. The overall environment is super pretty!

    Besides great hotel facility, the activities are actually the best! We were very happy with our husky run and snowmobile experience. They provide good outfits that keep us warm. The Finland longest toboggan run is 3 min walk away. Ski resort is just a few minutes drive away. You can also find supermarket or different restaurant there. But we find the hotel's Finland souvenir is better!

    Excellent location and real Finnish cabin experience. There are hotels at Saariselkä but if you want authenticy then this is your choise. Manager was nice to pop up briefly after check in to see if we had everything. Cabin has great fireplace & sauna which was little bit thight thought. Good beds and kitchen equipment.

    Hotel staffs, reception and restaurant, are very friendly and willing to help! Especially, they made phone call when there is northern lights! Igloos are amazing, you can just wear one layer thought it’s freezing out side. And the view from igloos is amazing, starry sky spread out in front of you!
