We had an amazing stay! The place is super quiet and beautifully restored – a perfect blend of old charm (exposed stone walls!) and modern elements like glass and metal. Everything is stylish and thoughtfully done. Our room for four was really spacious and pleasantly air-conditioned – which made for great sleep and kept the bugs away. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly, the pool was great with a nice temperature, and breakfast outside was just lovely: fresh orange juice, good coffee, and a tasty selection of local cheese and meats. The host was incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. A special highlight: the sweet dog, which our kids absolutely adored. All in all, a fantastic stay – we'd love to come back! If the medieval city of Martel is a crown topping this part of the Dordogne Valley, then Le Petit Moulin is the jewel in the crown. It's perfectly located in a quietish street in the main part of town, and offers lots of dining tables, a Wine Bar and shop, plus 5 delightful hotel rooms. We stayed 2 nights and ate 2 dinners at Le Petit Moulin and were enchanted by the staff, the menu and our room. Camille, Florian and the other waiters know the menu and make excellent wine pairing suggestions. The chef uses local, seasonal ingredients and creates stunning flavour profiles. The menu is relatively small, which is a sure sign of freshness and home-cooked food. There is a starter and a main dish of the day to round out the offerings. The restaurant is open 7 days a week for both lunch and dinner; reservations are highly recommended due to its popularity. Owner Adrien has recently refurbished 5 bedrooms in this corner building, and ours was exceptional. The modern design combined with some older features create a lovely blend and ensure your comfort. The bathroom is gorgeous with two sinks, toilet, and walk-in shower. The buffet breakfast features hand-crafted croissants and pains au chocolat such as I have never seen during over 40 years living in France. Martel itself is a real gem; lively old buildings and everyday shops that show that real people live in the town. There is a good selection of restaurants to serve the many tourists, but we did not feel like we were in an overly tourist-oriented spot. All in all, Le Petit Moulin provided us with an excellent base for eating, drinking, sleeping, and exploring the area. We intend returning!
