FAQs about hotels in Le Havre

Making the Most of Modernism

The jagged coast of Normandy contrasts with the sharp lines created by Belgian architect Auguste Perret’s post-war modernist creation in Le Havre. The city encompasses an important port at the mouth of the Seine river that flows into the English Channel after passing through Paris.

St. Joseph’s Church rose from the ashes of World War II to become a striking symbol for Le Havre’s architectural awakening. The huge tower consists of a concrete outer skin complemented with a Neo-Gothic interior including coloured-glass windows letting in different shades of light.

The Andre Malraux Museum has a wonderful collection of artworks from the Impressionist period including paintings from Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Wide open spaces and fountains are a feature of the square, one of the biggest in France, surrounding Hotel de Ville (town hall).

Sometimes referred to as the ‘Brasilia of France’, Le Havre incorporates the work of Brazil’s most famous architect, Oscar Niemeyer, in his creation Le Volcan. Spanning the river Seine is Le Pont de Normandie, an iconic cable bridge linking the city with Honfleur.

Most hotels and apartments on Booking.com are located in the compact city centre or around the train station.

We visited the city because of it's UNESCO World Heritage Site status. We were very diappointed. The structures were not aesthetically attractive. Not worth the extra time allocated to look round.

Unfortunately we were only there on a Sunday where all the town facilities were closed by the time we got there. However, there is a huge shopping centre open on a Sunday about a 15 minute walk from the hotel - veery impressive

I was in Le Havre because my cruise terminated there. I needed a hotel with good wifi to figure out the rest of my trip. I wanted an inexpensive place. The museum MuMa was charming and the restaurant very good. The taxi driver recommended a reservation. Good advice.

It is a perfect place to visit in the weekend, particularly those who are sea lovers will enjoy the beautiful beach and good seafood in local restaurants. The public transport is really good. There is a tram line that can be used to reach La Plage (sea beach). It can be used as well to reach Hotel de Ville and visit the city centre.

One of France's under-known gems, with this UNESCO world heritage city is a whole outdoor exhibition of modernism. Vibrant social life in the beach area; fascinating backdrop of the port and the long wide basins in the centre of the city; and numerous distinctive neighbourhoods to explore with stunning views as you climb towards the hanging gardens.

Loved the vibrant atmosphere in the town.

Loved the vibrant atmosphere in the town. There was an interesting art festival there for the summer with some fascinating installations e.g. a rainbow arch made of shipping containers. A 'must see' is St. Joseph's Church designed by architect, Auguste Perret, after WWII. It is breathtaking! The architect made imaginative use of concrete as a building material following the large scale destruction of Le Havre during World War II, not only in the church, but in many buildings around the town.

this hotel located about a half hour walk from the centre and about 20 minutes from a new shopping mall/outlet store called the dock...not much to see in the centre as le havre was heavily bombed during the war so most is new build.. the docks just by the town centre are a pleasant experience where you can watch the ferries coming/going ..note this isnt the cruise ship dock . the room is typically 'ibis' small but comfortable with everything you need for a stop over night

The staff allowed early check in. The room was quite big. The place was very clean. The quality of the breakfast was very good. There is a tram station two minutes away from the hotel and the railway station is 10 minutes walk from the hotel. We took the tram to visit the city centre and sea beach. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. They also allowed late departure. We were very happy with the location, hotel facility and services.

We stayed here for 2 nights on a brief trip to Normandy. Everything you'd need is there, especially if you're self catering. Lovely place to stay, the garden is nice too. Secure parking. We didn't use it but the pellet burner looks like it make it cosy in winter. If we are ever in le havre again we'd definitely stay here. There is a small carrefor express within 5 mins walk and a lidl within 20 mins walk or 3 mins in a car.

My room was perfect for one night stay: small, clean and very warm! The staff is nice and they explained everything to me in detail. Location is truly great (~20 minutes from the centre and 30 minutes from the beach by walk), especially if you wish to travel also somewhere outside Le Havre: the bus/train station is really close, plus there are at least 2 grocery stores nearby.

La Bonne Addresse is a real charming hotel: housed in an old refurbished mansion, it is very comfortable and nice. Not really close to downtown Le Havre, but very close to sea shore amenities. Room was somewhat small, but comfortable and nicely outfitted. Staff were very empathic and helpful, breakfast was remarkable. Definitely a recommended location.
