Large apartment right next to the Orcival Notre Dame, walking distance to good restaurants and very hospitable host who greeted us in person and very kindly offered to do our washing/drying at her apartment (which is in same building as our rented apartment). We visited the basilica. It's a shame the Cordes castle was closed, as it looks magnificent from a distance. Hiking is possible, but given the heat, we decided against it.

Stunning scenery despite the bad weather. A hiker's paradise. Plenty of accommodation and dining options. Decent car access within the village, depending on the time of year, but excellent road infrastructure in the surrounding area.

A charming and picturesque little village in the Auvergne...

A charming and picturesque little village in the Auvergne region, nestled in the mountains. A superb Romanesque basilica with an impressive crypt and an interesting statue of the Virgin and Child. Beautiful walks all around, which we unfortunately didn't have time to explore.

A charming little village with its 11th-century basilica.

A charming little village with its 11th-century basilica. There are few shops, but a grocery store with regional products, a bar that also serves as a bread depot for breakfast, and a chocolate shop open to visitors. Several restaurants are also available. The village is not far from Puy-de-Dôme (20 minutes) or Clermont-Ferrand (35 minutes).

A pretty, typical village of the region.

A pretty, typical village of the region. Well-positioned geographically for exploring the area and hiking. A chocolate shop not to be missed (Maison Juilhard). Vincent's cuisine at the Notre Dame restaurant is well worth a visit in Orcival. 7km from Orcival, in Rochefort Montagne, there's a remarkable independent bookstore! (Le Loup qui Louche)

A very quiet village, unfortunately with very few shops.

A very quiet village, unfortunately with very few shops. The Basilica attracts many tourists, which brings a bit of life to the village. There are many sites to see in the area: La Bourboule, Mont d'Or, the Puy-de-Dôme, etc. In the village, several restaurants welcome guests, as well as an excellent chocolate shop.

We arrived rather late after the reception was closed, but no problem. The hotel had made a reservation for us at the restaurant, and first we we had a real 'Auvergne' meal, then the waiter gave us the key and walked us the 50 m to the hotel. Our room was at the first floor with a nice view to the basilisk. Small, but clean and comfortable. You can have breakfast, but we did not.

The breakfast was good, continental, with plenty of choice. The area was lovely, lots of walks & choice of places to eat in the village.The restaurant attached to the hotel had good food at a reasonable price.
