Unexpected. And Wonderful. This is a very unique place to stay. The hotel itself is in a building from the 1500’s and is part of an estate that the owner has been meticulously refurbishing. He and his wife are both very interesting people. They also have a wonderful Burnese Mountain dog. The building/hotel owner is an admitted enthusiast of WWII history. During war the building served as the headquarters for a German general and, after D-Day, for General James Lawton Collins. Part of the building now houses a very unique military museum (https://www.tripadvisor.ie/Attraction_Review-g608795-d25576850-Reviews-D_DAY_Collins_Museum-Sainte_Mere_Eglise_Manche_Basse_Normandie_Normandy.html). The bedrooms have all been recently decorated and are beautiful. Each room is named after a WWII general (Eisenhower, Bradley, Collins, etc.) Breakfast was terrific.

We stayed two nights here and visited the neighbourhood eg. Utah beach/museum, St Mere Eglise and Barfleur. Because there is so much to see we asked the host to help us with deciding what to visit. And she recommended the battery of Azeville which was a great experience for our family. The property is a small gem, beautifully renovated with a nice garden amidst fields. The owners are very kind and helpful and the beds, shower and breakfast were great.

The location of the apartment was in the centre of Sainte-Mere-Eglise only minutes walk from the town square, local shops, restaurants and bars. The town is small and easy to walk around. The major tourist attractions are all only a few minutes walk from the apartment. There is free on street parking outside the apartment, but not always available. The town square has plenty of free parking and is only a few minutes walk away. I had considered this might be an issue when I booked, but it turned out to be simple. The apartment has a good kitchenette, dining area & sitting room, which doubles as a bedroom if you choose to use the sofa bed. There is a separate bedroom with comfortable double bed. This room has a window with exterior roller shutter which is electrically operated and can be closed to make the room dark, which is ideal for those that want to sleep longer. The bathroom is small but functional with shower cubicle. It was well decorated and clean. For two people, the apartment is an ideal size.
