Beautifully appointed studio apartment in very secure building. Parking was also private so we felt happy to leave belongings on the roof rack overnight. A beautiful region for walks and sightseeing. February wasn't peak season, and the area isn't the most bustling, but it does have an interesting historical and industrial heritage. The region isn't very expensive.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Abbey Tower Museum, from the section detailing the restoration and religious artifacts to the collections of earthenware and porcelain with their accompanying commentary. We didn't eat in Saint-Amand itself, but at the restaurant Au Gré des Sens in Rosult, which had been highly recommended to us and met all our expectations.

It seems like a good base for cyclists.

It seems like a good base for cyclists. The route along the Scheldt and the Scarpe river is very scenic. It also seems like a great spot for children. I saw a playground, lots of greenery, and an outdoor bar. There are few or no restaurants nearby, so it's a nice, remote location. I also found the historical information about the complex very interesting.

I wanted to go for a walk in the area, but only found one...

I wanted to go for a walk in the area, but only found one good trail. Even the tourist office couldn't help me find a longer one (15 km). I had to walk for half an hour before I reached nature. All restaurants are closed on Sundays. The village lacks atmosphere. Lots of cars everywhere. A lovely, large park.

The room had shutters.

The room had shutters. It's hard to describe, but it was quite charming when you opened them. It bordered the path leading to the main building. On the other side of the main building was a large private plot and a terrace. Nicely laid out. It could use some modernization, though that has its charms.

Better than average hotel for the money, spacious room, very comfortable bed, everything was clean, even an English news channel on the TV in bedroom, breakfast was very good. Free parking in hotel carpark. No evening meal but a very good restaurant 2 minute walk opposite the hotel. Staff friendly and helpful.
