The spa was very well apportioned and it was very quiet and secluded. The staff throughout the hotel were extremely pleasant. One thing they must do in the restaurant is ensure that the wine ordered has arrived and ready to drink before the food is served. It is not good form to serve the food without the wine bottle even being at the table, let alone not opened.

A sweet little village shop full of fresh fruit and basics.

A sweet little village shop full of fresh fruit and basics. The village itself set in a beautiful part of the country, Eric Ravilious views everywhere. A range of pubs, some discreet luxury hotels now, some just relaxed medieval inns full of beams and cosy nooks. Independent, upmarket shops. Surrounded by walks and ancient churches, like St Michael's & All Angels at Berwick, which is unmatched for its calm simplicity and Bloomsbury artwork

Alfriston is old and beautiful with many half timbered buildings. It has a lovely village green and church. The Clergy House is well worth a visit. There is a good choice of places to eat. We chose Poco which was good but very expensive. The Smugglers Inn was excellent, friendly service, beautiful food and good value for money.

Very helpful and welcoming staff; spotless newly decorated bedroom and bathroom. A great view of the surrounding countryside from the grounds and pool. Thoughtful extras like welly boots for country walks.

there is a very nice coffee shop called the Singing kettle with delicious cakes. And we had supper at the George and Dragon which was very good both food and ambience. We were walking the South Downs way towards Eastbourne. I was disappointed with Alfriston generally. A couple of second rate antique type shops and an uninspiring deli. Alfriston had been billed as a jewel which it most definitely wasnt in my humble opinion. Not worth a detour.

Unfortunately because of the times of year (December) most places in and around Alfriston were closed. However this did not detract from this peaceful, pretty and historic village. I would definitely go again, earlier in the year when places are open We ate at the place we stayed ‘The Olde Smugglers Inne’ but they only serve excellent food in the evenings. It is fairly flat and easy to walk around the village.

Beautiful, stylish hotel in glorious grounds. Lovely, elegant room with a wonderfully comfortable bed and nice touches, like a bag of biscuits, some port and an in-room bath. Loved the welcome glass on wine on arrival. Great breakfast.

The place is charming and bang in the middle of Alfriston. Staff friendly and helpful, the room clean, comfortable and quiet. We had dinner in the evening and the food was good and service sleek.

Great place near the pretty village of Alfriston and with easy access to many lovely walks. Coast only a short distance by car, or a beautiful walk down the river.
