Applethwaite is a hamlet pressed against a hill at an elevation of some 60m above Keswick and Derwent Water. It is only a 30-40 minute stroll to the many cosy pubs in Keswick for a drink or a hearty meal. Keswick is a nice place with many outdoor and mountaineering shops — a clear mark of what the visitor can expect from the surrounding countryside. From Keswick one can take double-decker coaches running to many places and lakes further afield.
