Cockermouth is an unpretentious old Cumbrian market town...
Cockermouth is an unpretentious old Cumbrian market town brilliantly positioned for walking in the north lakes and an increasingly good variety of pubs, eateries, shops and galleries! It has the best lingerie boutique (!) and a plastic free shop, deli, best butchers and local cinema. But, be warned whilst I was in Cockermouth over New Year (30 Dec- 4 Jan), many of these venues were closed for the entirety of this festive period without advertising this on their websites and many of the eateries had stopped serving at about 8.30/9pm. Really recommend for eating the Trout Hotel and the Turkish restaurant Aspava and the Tithe tap bar. Not yet tried 41 Market Place and Fermento, but they are on my list for next time. Whilst I was on my own, the late operating hours of the Sainsbury and the Chinese take-away ‘Full-House’ saved me and was the freshest and best I have had in the UK for decades.
