The staff were welcoming on arrival. They provided assistance with booking a taxi for myself and my daughter. They were engaging in conversation and interested in hearing where we were going etc. Our waiter on the first night was really helpful when I mentioned my daughter was a fussy eater. He was able to arrange a really plain burger which she loved. On the subject of food......it was outstanding and very reasonably priced for the excellent quality and presentation that arrived to the table. It was really nice to see it was dog friendly too. Two guests has their lovely dogs along and the lay happily under the tables while their owners ate a meal. The bedroom was beautifully presented. Immaculately clean. The radio playing gently in the background on arrival was a really nice touch too. Just a final word on breakfast.....we opted for room only but when we arrived we saw the breakfast menu and swiftly opted to book breakfast., a decision i will never regret. The beautiful bread and perfectly soft poached eggs were magnificent. Well done to all at the black swan. A top class place to stay.

The cook house is a wonderfully spacious, stylish and comfortable place to stay. There were lovely views across the fields, a marvellous sunrise for the Summer Solstice, and the sunsets each evening were awesome. We loved exploring the local area, There were good walks around fishing lakes and through woodland (even for seniors) and several National Trust places to visit in the locality. We enjoyed the welcome pack. We wish we could have extended our stay. The hosts were friendly and welcoming. Thank you. We had a lovely break in this fantastic holiday cottage. We can definitely recommend.

Great location in the heart of Devizes. Cute little rooms at the back of the property with an out door sitting area. Pub was small & intimate with such friendly locals who made us feel like we had known them forever. Owner Nat & her family have owned the establishment for 70 odd years, and take pride in that fact. Overall, amazing & accommodating people. Highly recommend a stay at the Pelican Inn!

I found myself very welcome by Ellie and the house is super comfy! The breakfast was so tasty and home cooked! I had a very pleasant stay, relaxing. The house has everything, classic style with very good decor taste mixed with comfort! Cosy and warm! I'd lived there for 30 years, but recently re-located.

I'd lived there for 30 years, but recently re-located. The town looks to be in decline with some key employers closing down. Wadsworth's brewery, is in the process of being demolished, so a bit of an eyesore. The market square is partly closed to traffic due to a fire in a kebab shop and locals tell me this is impacting in footfall to the town. Sad to see it this way. Great if you like charity shops and Turkish barbers! White Bear pub is still superb though:)

Stationed here 60 years ago so already knew it was a lovely town with lively shops and market.The hotel was featured in Far from the madding crowd film in 1967. The series of locks at Caen are worth a visit,as is a visit to the famous brewery.

The town is bustling during the day and has plenty of shops to browse. It's easily walkable so we just spent the day pottering around and soaking up the atmosphere. There is quite a lot of history here and some town trails to follow. On a nice day, a walk along the canal is pleasant. There is a varied choice of pubs and restaurants for the evening. Beer drinkers will know this is the Wadsworth Brewery town although sadly the is no Brewery Tap at the moment.

The walk along the canal, the independent shop's, the pubs, food ,everything central lots of parking not that we used it ,Thursday Market day .we ate at the castle Inn and at the bear hotel excellent on both occasions, friendly staff great food .

I was so disappointed with Devizes.

I was so disappointed with Devizes. It was a historic town that should have kept us walking and looking but it had a feeling of being very run down, despite having some fine historic buildings. The surrounding countryside was delightful though and it was close to Broadway, Bourton-on-the-water etc.

Devizes is an historic market town, still reflecting its...

Devizes is an historic market town, still reflecting its long coaching history. The large market place, used as a film set for" Far from the madding crowd " and containing the famous Market Cross, is surrounded by a delightful mix of buildings and architectural styles. We were there on a Thursday when the thriving weekly market still occurs . Worth a wander round to soak up the atmosphere and hear the warm local accent. . People still come " in to town" from the surrounding villages to shop and meet up with friends at one of the many local hostelries, a tradition which is centuries old.

The staff were great. The room, albeit at the front of the property on the main road, was very quiet, thanks to secondary double glazing. The bed was really comfy and the shower was great. Biscuits and decaffeinated coffee in the room were well thought out. The breakfast was really nice. The only minor complaint was there were too many mushrooms. Less shrooms and another slice of bacon would have made it perfect. I was on a cycling tour and the hotel offered secure bicycle storage. If I return to Devizes, then I'm staying here again.

Perfect location in Devizes for nice independent shops and walks along the canal. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Our double room had plenty of storage space and the bathroom was clean and modern.
