I only stopped over for a night on my way down to the south coast but found the village pretty and well looked after. The houses with the thatched roofs are pretty and there are a couple of nice hostelries and a cafe. I would have liked there to be earlier opening eateries. Not much to keep you there any longer really.

This is a lovely property owned by the most amazing couple.

This is a lovely property owned by the most amazing couple. They went out of their way to make me feel welcome and comfortable. The property is in a lovely spot that it easy to find and although it looks close to a main road on a map, it doesn’t feel that way at all. The room was comfortable, clean and breakfast was great, lots of it and all fresh. There is a pub and petrol station which includes a Greggs and Asda within walking distance and Salisbury town centre is not that far, either by car or bus. I only wish I could have stayed longer.

If you're going to Downton (the real one!)

If you're going to Downton (the real one!) it can be at any tme of the year. There are ancient buildings, The Moot, St Laurence Church and pubs serving food, plus Downton is a great starting point for investigating the south of Wiltshire and adjacent areas of Dorset and Hampshire, including the New Forest. There are relatively easy walks in all directions: along the Avon, up on the Downs, and elsewhere - suited to those capable of only short walks as well as those who who might savour long distance routes trodden by monks and traders in medieval times. However you relax, Downton's now sedate pace should provide something to suit.

The Shorefield park at Downton is a lovely holiday park, clean, well kept and in a great location. Just a 15 minute walk to the beach, a 35 minut walk into Milfor od Sea and just a short drive into the New Forest. The facilities on site have everything you need if you don't want to venture out, i.e. Bar, Restaurant, Gym, Swimming Pool and evening entertainment. I would highly recommend it.

Just a short break for the new forest as we had not visited for many years. Ideal for a short break, the owners had made the accommodation most comfortable and in our opinion spotless, so a big thank you for all there efforts.. We hope to stay again as the location was ideal...

The local view of The Bull is "only go there if you want a fight or drugs" - i'd say that is pretty accurate. As for our room, the plumbing barely worked, the noise from ventilation ducts was intolerable and the TV didnt work, not that it would have been audible above the noise. Dreadful place and I dont have particularly high standards.
