Edale offers the perfect starting point for days' worth of hiking in the Peak District. Easy to get to via train from either Manchester or Sheffield, there is no need to rent a car to enjoy the Peak District.

The train is very convenient, and the Old Nags Head pub is worth a visit. There really is very little else to the town. I recommend a stay in Castleton instead. Just be aware that there are no trains to Castleton and bus service stops before 6pm.

Top notch walks and climbs on the doorstep, especially if you want to experience Kinder Scout. Best food and beer at the Old Nags Head pub. Handy train station. Can get very busy at weekends, very popular with walkers and cyclists.

Edale is a beautiful small village situated almost at the foot of the most amazing mountain roads and walks. A pub at either end of the village with good food, good beer and a friendly atmosphere. We absolutely loved it.

This was a February trip so the weather was often wet but there are plenty of other things to do besides walking. One minor disadvantage is the lack of a bus service in the village (we were using public transport), but trains are generally reliable from the local station and other places accessible from Hope or Hathersage. Visitor Centre was closed during February half-term - a shame as it could have been useful. Great atmosphere in this village, by day and by night. Wonderful walking

Poor Wi-Fi connection.

Poor Wi-Fi connection. When I stayed in different accommodation previously I experienced the same issue. A lovely cafe next to the train station. If it wasn’t for the length of stay I would have explored other places to eat outside Edale. Be aware that poor signal may affect your ability to park in some car parks in the area. I would advise bringing plenty of change with you.

Great cottage with super comfortable beds and sofas. Very well equipped kitchen and the generous little extras in there made us feel very welcome. Lovely little bench/outside space where we sat each evening for drinks. Nothing very close by in terms of food/drink but a short drive into Edale to the Nags Head where the food is phenomenal - highly recommend the full English!! Great location for several walks - we did Jacob's Ladder and Kinder Scout on this occasion which was brutal!

Both breakfast and dinner were fine. The quality and variety were good and value for money. Location was next to railway station and just down the hill from the start of the Pennine Way which was what the group were there for. The staff were friendly and helpful

The location was excellent and ideal for walking in the Edale valley and beyond. The property has parking, which is must for Edale and with two pubs and two cafes very nearby access to food was very easy.

Clean and functional rooms and facilities, practical self catering kitchen, friendly staff. Decent wifi for a YHA. Note that some rooms are not accessible at the top of a long set of stairs up a hill.
