Godalming is a lovely little town, fairly flat and interesting to walk around. It is a good base to other areas too. We went to the Watts Gallery and Chapel, it was the prime reason for our visit and we weren’t disappointed. Nice town, which we'd not visited for nearly 50 years - the first, apparently, to be lit by electric light (1881). It's a super high street, and there's a nice riverside park with a colonnade dedicated to Jack Phillips, who was the wireless operator on the Titanic. I wasn’t coming for pleasure so had dinner in the hotel both nights. Just 3 parking spaces ludicrous. However, public car park free after 6.30pm right through Sunday. But as I had arrived on Friday it would have cost more into Saturday morning. The room 104 was small and over the kitchen air con units. Godalming is an attractive small town on the edge of the Surrey Hills. We’re regular visitors, our daughter and family live there. We liked having our own space rather than staying in a hotel room. Generally, the property was clean and the linen was spotless. Fans were provided for use on hotter days and they did a great job. There were nice views from the dormer windows. The kitchen was very well equipped and had everything we needed. Had we been staying for longer, the laundry room would have been very useful.
