Broughton House, Kirkcudbright Art Gallery and Jessie King's Garden in Greengate Close (tucked away off the High Street) are all delightful places to visit for art lovers! A charming town with pretty houses and fascinating buildings, such as the Tolbooth, set on the attractive River Dee estuary, near picturesque countryside.

Fabulous wee place, beautiful seafood, lovely arty shops and galleries. Easy to walk around. Very friendly people. Lots to see. Highly recommend the Swally n’ Scran restaurant & Skippers Scran Van. Galleries great and nice wee shops. Enjoyed visit to Dundrennan Abbey and amazing views from top of Barstobrick Hill. Will go back for Broughton House & Gardens.

We stayed in room 4 at the front of the hotel.

We stayed in room 4 at the front of the hotel. The setup of the room was excellent, you get basically a double room, one half was the bed and on-suite the other half was the lounge eating area. Both areas were a fair size as well. There were plenty of sockets, good lighting, a full sized fridge, tea/ coffee facilities, with a good selection of Teas and coffee 2 TV's, thick curtains and the rooms were lovely and warm// The staff were very friendly and did their best to ensure you had a great stay, Everything was lovely and clean and considering your room is right over the pub, you were not disturbed by any noise. the bed was clean and comfortable. Like a lot of independent hotels it could do with a little updating and careful thought to certain things , such as the furniture in the bathroom eventually reacts with the moist atmosphere and that shows around the edges. the very large shower tray should either be ceramic or better supported underneath to stop any movement. Hot food was available if booked but we wanted to experience eating out in the town. Because it was a big event parking was a little bit of a problem but if you persevere you will get a good secure spot.

The town itsel was semi coastal, and certainly worth a stop for a day or two, but be wary of pricing rip-offs in Hotels, and Accomodation rentals in general which should be verified by a trustworthy source before booking, or use well known Motels etc.

We loved just wandering around the town.

We loved just wandering around the town. I can recommend Millars L’atelier Du Vin. It was a lovely place to spend a couple of hours. Skippers Scran fish van on the harbour served the best scallop and chips.

An attractive small fishing port town with a harbour, many quirky old buildings with a lot of history, friendly people, several good places to eat and so much to explore locally. Great beaches, forests, hills and walks all within easy reach. I recommend the 'Auld Alliance' restaurant for high class cuisine without a high class price tag. Brighouse Bay, Dhoon and Mossyard are excellent beaches.

Spacious warm rooms, perfectly clean and well set out, in a traditional grand house, set on a hill surrounded by beautiful, mature gardens. Ample parking space. Good directions and easy to find. The staff were professional and very accommodating, providing an excellent service and creating a delightful atmosphere. I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Kirkcudbright and the surrounding countryside. The meals were beautifully presented and delicious, with a wide ranging evening menu alongside a well stocked bar.

We loved this cosy apartment. Had everything we needed and more for a couple nights stay. Very clean and well equipped. Great location would highly recommend. Sofa bed was big enough for two adults, plenty duvets/ blankets very comfortable. Clear instructions before arriving and again once inside. Kirkcudbright is a lovely little harbour town, lots of little craft / tourist shops, cafes etc.. locals were very friendly, welcoming and a lot of places were dog friendly too.

This old hotel is under new management and they are refurbing. But it didn’t get in the way of our enjoyment. All we ask is that the room is clean, the bed comfortable, and that there is plenty of hot water - full marks for all. Because it is an old property the sound insulation between rooms was great. We never heard the neighbours once they were in their room - only doors opening in the corridor.
