A pretty and historical village with two Elizabethan houses to visit , an ancient church , close to other attractions such as Lavenham and Cavendish yet having amenities such as shops and post office . There are also frequent buses to Bury St Edmunds .

Long Melford is in a wonderful location and is ideally placed for touring the area of both Suffolk and parts of Essex. It is an interesting place to stroll around itself with its small independent shops, tearooms and hostelries . Places to visit include Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Southwold on the coast , Sudbury, Clare and Colchester or just casually drive around the area to visit lovely sleepy villages with thatch cottages in abundance.

    Lovely village, with pretty houses.

Lovely village, with pretty houses. Lots of options for walking. The National Trust property of Melford Hall is a nice place to visit, as is the privately owned Kentwell Hall. Lots of places to eat as well as quirky little shops. We are in the Black Lion which was excellent.

    Location great - staff excellent.

Location great - staff excellent. Building beautiful but internally a bit tired. With a bit of money invested it could be exceptional. It's not like there's more competition in the village.

There is so much history on this side of Suffolk, the smallest pub in England is not too far away and there are too many churches to count. John Constable the great British plein air painter referred to it as gods own country and with good reason.

It was the most unclean health hazard place I have ever been to . From stain on the carpet to knob of unit with screw sticking out . Un clean kitchen to things moulding in a bin in the kitchen . Yellow toilet seat with god knows what filth was around the rim . To the outside so over grown you couldn’t get to the summer house which obviously hadn’t been cleaned for months cobwebs all over it . Piles of mouldy dog poo and it topped it off with a dead decomposed rat . Then them not to give us our money back disgrace-full. The neighbour told us it was a rat run they always have problems 🤮

Long Melford is a great centre from which to visit Suffolk and we also spent a day in Cambridge very easily via the nearest Park and Ride which is the Newmarket Road one. Kentwell and Melford Hall well worth a visit and easily walked to from the property. Surrounding farmland walks also lovely. Plenty of good pubs, shops and places to eat.

The room was in an annex at the rear of the property, so there was hardly any road noise. It was spotless and the bed was very comfortable. The property is situated in the heart of Long Melford, a very attractive village with lots of independent shops and two large and excellent antique centres.
