We absolutely loved staying here, such a charming old bed and breakfast, cosy pub downstairs, lovely rooms upstairs, very friendly staff and guests, nice breakfast and refreshing beer..just what we needed after a long day hiking the Coast Path! The location is right down on the harbour . The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The decor in the reception rooms is colourful and quirky and very relaxing. We enjoyed spending a rainy afternoon reading by a log fire in the lounge. The dinner and breakfast were excellent. Both vegan and we couldn’t believe we were offered vegan croissant and a full cooked breakfast. The dining area is delightful and we felt very relaxed.

What can I say - Rachael, we love you!! This place is an extraordinary experience. You are either going to love it or hate it. If you value character, quirkiness, history and extraordinary value for money you’ll love this old Victorian pile that has definitely seen better days but still echoes it’s grand past as you ramble through it’s vast spaces and endless corridors. It’s also as central as you’ll ever get and Rachael the manager is lovely. We had a great sea view too!

The host is a very nice man, he opened the kitchen especially for us in the evening and prepared wonderful meals. The cleanliness and facilities were top notch. I highly recommend the Lion House. We regret that our stay was so short, it was wonderful. I wish we'll be back some day :)

Ideally located for a trip to the North Devon coast.

Ideally located for a trip to the North Devon coast. There's ample opportunity to walk and explore within a short distance. From the flat expanse of the beach at Woolacombe , to the towns of Ilfracombe, Combe Martin , Lynton and Lynmouth. Then there's the miles of tracks along the coast and on Exmoor itself. An interesting National Trust property can be found at Arlington court. More than this. You can walk from your front door. Pack your backpack and off you go. Fuel up well with breakfast though. As the terrain can be challenging. Very steep gradients can lie around every corner.

Beautiful location. The 2 bed lodge/apartment was excellent - very spacious. Garden/grounds at the hotel was lovely and straight onto walking trails from the front door. Stayed for 4 nights with 2 teenagers and dog. ate at the hotel every night. Food was great. Hotel very dog friendly which was a bonus

An exceptional location in a deep, sheltered wooded valley leading to a secluded beach. The hotel preserves its arts and crafts aesthetic whilst offering modern comforts. You can enjoy excellent walks either to the dramatic coastline or up the steep valley.
