Rye has lovely old building and some very old pubs, it is full of narrow streets but once you get your bearings it is lovely. You can go up the church tower for lovely views and we were lucky enough to get a guided walk around the Rye Harbour nature reserve.Guest review byElaine - 10.0
Rye is a really interesting historical town.
Rye is a really interesting historical town. Feels very safe and relaxed. Full of local history and old buildings complimented with the shops and restaurants to satisfy visitors. Lots of places in driving distance nearby and has rail links to Hastings and stations between Ashford and Eastbourne. The area around the Castle and St Mary's Church was my favourite, if you are mobile visit the church tower and see great views over the town. Best food was the Kings Head and best beer was in the Water Works. The town appeals more to grown ups, young children would probably prefer Camber Sands near by. Rye is a bit hilly with a few cobbled narrow streets which may be an issue to wheelchair users.Guest review byJasperUnited Kingdom - 10.0
A wonderful old town with lots of history.
A wonderful old town with lots of history. We visited all three museums and had lunch at the mermaid inn and the inn above the mermade cafe where the lady there was so helpful she was a treasure. Mke sure to buy some ice cream from the cafe yummy. We loved the place we stayed. Rye is easy to get around on foot though there are some steep cobled streets. The church in the centre was very interesting too. In the heritage museum there was a model of the town with an excellent sound and light show. The womens prison and gibbet at the Ypres museum were just a bit scary. The castle museum was more modern but still worth a visit. We visited Canterbury very easy by train for the day to see the cathedral. All the trains were very good and on time. Stayed three nights.Guest review bylesleyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Essential Good map- flat shoes and if staying in Rye light luggage. Plenty of walking, dont miss the choc shop or Paper place and rug studios great to see individual shops. Rye is just beautiful.
Rye is just beautiful. There is so much history and so many places to wander around. Lots of coffee shops/restaurants/Hotels and Air B&B’s to cater for everyone’s budget. Fabulous little shops and so varied. The Church is amazing and for those brave enough you can climb to the viewing point on the roof. The Mermaid Inn is steeped in smuggling history as well as royal connections. We stayed at the Standard Inn in the Mint, highly recommend. Fabulously clean with friendly and welcoming staff. Excellent food and breakfasts. If you intend staying in Rye, make sure you have comfortable footwear as there are so many cobbled streets.Guest review bydavidUnited Kingdom

The room was immaculate - that bath is exceptional! - with a gorgeous window looking out over Rye and super comfy bed. Tunnnocks in the room and a tea and coffee making facilities! Absolutely delicious restaurant, too - we had breakfast both mornings (exceptional!) and dinner on the first night. Definitely go for a lychee margarita!
