United KingdomThe property had an amazing view from the kitchen and all the rooms were very clean and comfortable. Amazing bathtub and walk in shower. The TV sitting room with the giant window allowed us to enjoy the sunset and a prismatic available let us admire the birds passing by. The available coffee beans and grinder were an extra very welcomed gift

GermanyThe hotel couple was very friendly and we had interesting conversations with them.
The room was very nice and modern, and the bathroom and shower were very comfortable. The heater in the bathroom and the heater in the bedroom kept the rooms pleasantly warm. We could adjust both individually.
We especially enjoyed the excellent food and service, which we were able to enjoy for six days.

NetherlandsThe hosts were ever so friendly and really made me feel welcome. They also helped me with typical Westray time management issues, like monitoring ferry sailings to Papay on a windy day and - at least as important😀 - the opening hours of the fish ‘n chip shop.
The accommodation is very spacious, spotless and comfortable. Lots of options for breakfast!

GermanyBackaskaill Farmhouse was the best holiday home we ever stayed. Its interior was impeccably designed, with every detail thoughtfully considered to create a harmonious and inviting atmosphere. One highlight was the private beach, where we could bask in the sun and enjoy the beauty of the coastline and the local wildlife of Sanday. To top it all off, the kind and attentive host made our stay even more delightful by helping us with everything and welcoming us with coffee, cake, fresh flowers and treats for our dog.

Sanday is a hidden gem.
Sanday is a hidden gem. It has the beauty of long white beaches with gentle waves and a warmth of light that on its own is worth the long long journey: but add in the fact that in our month long travel around Scotland via West coast islands and mainland (including Skye) this was the only place with cafes and restaurants open and varied in August plus the variety and offer in the two island shops, it was the most welcoming and comfortable place we stayed.

I loved the beaches, they were absolutely stunning.
I loved the beaches, they were absolutely stunning. Most are not easily accessible due to the large flat stones that lead down onto the sand so good footwear is useful for those.
I cooked for myself at the cottage as I had my dog with me so I didn't explore what was available although there is a very good general store that has just about everything you need if self-catering.
We travelled around Sanday by car, I did see some visitors on bicycles but that wasn't an option for me although I could have rented a bicycle if I wanted to.
Sanday is a friendly place, nothing is too much trouble, I'd go back again.
