Great place. Used to visit a lot when I was a child.

Great place. Used to visit a lot when I was a child. The Spanish City retains the silhouette but none of it's original charm, however, Dire Straits have managed to cement that into my memory. The beach is still as beautiful as it was decades ago, and the surf is as reliable. A great place to visit always. Wrap up in the winter and and casual in the summer. Travel a few miles south to Cullercoats and Tynemouth and South Shields and Roker beaches. These are hidden gems that would be a shame never to visit. A truly beautiful part of the world.

The best feature for me was the promenade. Good for walking.

The best feature for me was the promenade. Good for walking. The St Mary's Island and lighthouse were definitely worth the visit. It was very pleasant watching the seals on the rocks around the Island. Spanish City building was also well worth the visit. The was ample facilities on the promenade and in the Town Centre which was only a five minute walk from the promenade, including many public houses and restaurants.

Not somewhere I will rush back to, other than the seafront it felt very tired, it has seen better days, I would recommend that you keep going until your reach Tynemouth which has a much nicer feel to it.

The sea front's really nice, lovely walk to the lighthouse and down to Tynemouth and North Shields. The town centre's OK, quite small, but good transport via bus and metro to get around the area.

Whitley bay was clean ,no rubbish on streets.

Whitley bay was clean ,no rubbish on streets. Everyone was friendly. The boardwalk was busy with dog walkers, runners and cyclists. The beach is large and clean. Plenty of places to eat at good prices. Spanish city is worth the visit. Definitely would recommend a visit and will go back .

The Metropolitan Guest House is truly excellent! I received a very warm welcome and stayed in a beautiful, clean and cosy room which had a view of the sea. The bed was extremely comfortable, and a delicious cooked breakfast was provided. The location of this property is ideal for access to Whitley Bay beach and to several pubs and restaurants in the town, and is a welcome escape from the bustle of Newcastle. Highly recommended - I will definitely return!

Great value for money, the location is fantastic right next to the beach and Whitley bay centre and the hotel it self is absolutely spotless clean. We had a family room which was such a big room and the staff on the desk are all very friendly and welcoming, and has all the facilities you need, we would definitely stay here again.
