The Manor Inn corresponds exactly to what I expected from a Yorkshire Inn: a friendly welcome, well-appointed rooms and a decent meal and drink. Certainly a recommendation when passing in the area.

Really nice comfortable stay. Spacious room, nicely decorated, with a big comfortable bed and a clean, modern ensuite bathroom. Lots of options provided to make yourself a cuppa which was appreciated. Easy self check in and self check out. Lovely communicative host. A few continental breakfast items available in the room - please note the cafe downstairs (independent from the guesthouse) has pretty limited hours so early risers need not plan to eat breakfast there

It is a truly beautiful place. Everywhere I turned there was a picture calling to be taken. The green grass, the beautiful gardens, trees and flowers, the small pond - everything had an Alice in Wonderlandish feel. It’s far enough from the city to be surrounded by beautiful green fields and close enough that you can get a taxi to ride into the city center when needed. The staff was exceptional, always polite and taking care of every request whether it was a cup of tea in the lawns or suggestions of what to do nearby. The spa was also wonderful - with the heated pool, jacuzzi and steam / sauna, it all added to a relaxing stay

FAQs about hotels in York

England Through The Ages

Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once allowed access to the city.

Walk the walls for wonderful views towards the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.

A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even have a go at archaeology yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.

Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around 30 minutes’ drive away is Castle Howard, a stately home with over 1000 acres of grounds.

Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there is a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in York and the outskirts available on Booking.com.

York has something for everyone, but can be a bit crowded with visitors. My favourite thing to do is take a circular walk/amble via the Minster, Clifford Tower and Merchant Adventurer's Hall, and explore the independent coffee shops, tea rooms and shops you can find just off the beaten track.

Never seen so many people, every where was crowded, You need to plan your trip better than we did . Prebook everything, We ate at the 'Cut and Craft' one night is was very noisy. The fillet stake was not the best I have tasted, The 'Pye Wipe' in Lincoln does the best stake I have ever tasted. We also had a very good pizza at a place in the shambles can't remember the name. Park your car for the duration of your visit, only on foot can York be appreciated.

York is a beautiful city but it was far too crowded to be enjoyable. We visited in November and we thought we'd be ahead of the Christmas day-trippers but it was already difficult to walk around the city centre. Make certain to book ahead if you want to visit any restaurants as there were no available walk ins - even fast food chains had waiting lists.

Love York and visit a couple of times every year.

Love York and visit a couple of times every year. Christmastime is very busy in the city centre, but it’s a wonderful atmosphere and feels really safe. Loads of good shops and loads of history to see. My ONlY gripe is that since when was it acceptable (York City Council) to charge £17 for 4 hours car parking? We’re going to spend money in your city - please stop trying to fleece us!

An absolutely stunning hotel, beautifully restored but with all the modern amenities you’d need. It’s around a 15/20 minute walk into the city centre but should you need something there’s plenty of shops and cafes within close proximity. We had to use the pay and display car park due to the hotel one being full which was a little pricey, but no more than anywhere else in York. Overall, a beautiful hotel in a beautiful city!

Excellent location for York city centre! We walked to the Railway Museum , Jorvik Viking Museum, The Shambles and various other places in the city and thought they were excellent. York is a fabulous place for history lovers and the Ghost Bus which was only a short distance from the hotel didn’t disappoint! Clean, comfortable room with tea/coffee facilities and a great shower!
