Just as other guests mentioned, the accomodation is an experience in itself, as it's a real old traditional stone house, adapted to offer comfort like AC, running hot and cold water. Nothing fancy but clean and welcoming. We didn't miss anyhting and appreciate all the efforts put in. The terrace is a nice place to start and end the day. Costas, our host, couldn't be more welcoming, he prepared and printed for us information about the Mani history and places to visit, as well as the hostory of the house built by his ancestors. He's there for anything his guests may need or ask. One thing to know is that a car is required, and also the nearest eating out options are in Gerolimenas, a few kilometers away. There is a grocery store in town.

It felt like heaven. It's an oasis, away from the troubled world. We loved the position of the hotel, loved the facilities, the total sea view, the breakfast, the friendly and careful administrators, the snorkeling rich offer, the cleanest sea, the sunbeds and the shower in the yard. It's the best place if you want quiet and the sensation that time and pressure have never reached this place. They also have an interesting small library in many languages...and it's pet friendly! Heaven! And everyone was whispering around, that quiet! The sea noise was the loudest sound...

So tiny and still everything there, so well equipped. And so lovely. And did I mention tiny? :-D It´s all ruins around the tower, so very quiet at nights, Vathia is a really cool place to explore. During the day, there´s tourists passing along the path. I enjoyed sitting on the stairs/stones before the (tiny!) door and chatting to some people. The lovely owner also left us the key to her terrace around the corner for breakfast and such. And she let us stay a little longer for the nasty rain on our departure day. Thank you. The tavern in town was open and nice, with great views. Be prepared for a bit of an adventure walk to the place. It´s steep and partly plain rocks. My first thought was "are they nuts?!?, this can´t be the right way?!?". It is not really suitable for suitcases, bring a backpack, and altogether don´t bring much stuff (tiny, remember?) When we checked out with rain, we skipped the slippery "rock stairs" and walked the circle through the ruins the other way around, it´s a bit longer, but possible, you can´t really go wrong.

Small historic village half way between Mesa Mani capital,...

Small historic village half way between Mesa Mani capital, Areopolis, and the southern tip of Tainaron. Lots of characteristic tower houses - some restored and some waiting for the process to happen. This part of Mani is so beautiful, the restorers are never fair away. The village has the back drop of the Mani central mountain range, with the rugged coast to the front. Koita is a mile or so inland, but the sea is easily accessed. Olive trees surround the settlements, and the only noise is the morning cockerels. The one blight is actually a double ended sword - the only mini market for miles is on the main road through the village. Very handy. But what an eye sore! That forgiven, Koita is an amazingly beautiful place - and hosts the first class luxury hotel Citta dei Nicliani.
